I think the list is missing Piano Tabs that can be found here: Piano Tabs.

It’s a really great app to play your songs live, nut not a piano replacement. Helped me really to learn and play way better!

First of all, thank you for this great post, they are indeed great apps for learning how to play the piano.

I recently released iLovePiano for the iPad. It is a really nice application that helps you learn musical notes, piano keys, staff music representation.

If you own a real piano or an electric keyboard you can use it in your practice (iLovePiano listens to your piano via the microphone and recognizes the notes).

Thanks so much! I downloaded tons of piano apps and i can say this one is the best for self taught newbies. In just 2 days i was able to finish playing music pieces, tho only the easy ones. It made memorizing the keys easier. I wana thank whoever made this app. The free version was ok but i just had to buy it for more lessons. I also like the fact that it can detect my keyboard without any wires connected, it just uses the ipad microphone so i can play on my actual keyboard and it recognizes the notes. But i noticed a problem regarding the F key, i had to press it 2-3 times before it can recognize it as an F. Maybe its a bug, i hope you can fix it.

        • Mihai babusca

Hi ikiyen, thanks for the nice review. Some pianos/keyboards have sounds that are hard to recognise accurately. This is why, all the apps require a midi cable connection :).
          You can try the following:
          – disable touch response on the keyboard (on my piano the touch response generates too may frequencies that confuse the recogniser)
          – disable other effects (reverb/chorus)
          – go to settings and record the F key
          – make sure you play on the same octave you do the calibrations

          Hope this helps!

Thank you for sharing this information on your website. A lot of my students have an ipad and I think that these apps would be of great benefit to them. It is a great idea to use technology when teaching a musical instrument, especially the piano.

I will be recommending these apps to my students and I am planning to use some of them too.

    Thanks again!
    All the best!
