Instagram Hosts InstaMeet: 24 March 2011

Instagram are hosting a worldwide InstaMeet on 24 March, when Instagrammers in all different parts of the world will gather in their hometowns to meet other members of the Instagram community.

Just go to meetup.com/instagram to join your city’s Instagram meetup group. Once some other folks in your area say they’re interested, you can choose a location and meet. Someone can even volunteer to be the organizer to help move the process along.

Why, What For?

The goal of the Worldwide InstaMeet is simply to get together with other Instagrammers in your area. In Portland, @grether organized one of the very first Instameets. "Just get people in a social space (coffee shop, pub, restaurant) with their phones and start talking about this shot or that, this app or that," he says. That same approach has worked for Instameets in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York, too.

If you’re looking for more structure, consider organizing a photowalk, which Instagrammers in San Francisco and Bath, UK have already done (search for the #instameet tag). Or find an event in your area that fellow Instagrammers might be interested in. Just the other week, Instagrammers met up at the Apple Store in Manhattan to listen to @sionfullana’s talk on iPhoneography.
