Just A Ball

media_1307963768182.png

AngryOrange, an innovative upstart mobile applications developer, is excited to announce the release of Just a Ball 1.0 for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The launch of this addictive game marks the first AngryOrange app to go live on the App Store, and the developers couldn’t be happier. A physics based puzzle adventure, Just a Ball has users to use problem solving skills and sheer accuracy to get a soccer ball from its starting position into a box with a single shot. Gamers are challenged to complete these missions by strategically placing a sparse set of materials to guide the ball en route to its cardboard destination. Just a Ball is currently available for download on the Apple App Store for only $0.99 (USD) in the Games category.

Built to offer players a mentally engaging mobile gaming experience that is at once highly dynamic and complex, Just a Ball represents a near perfect balance between adrenaline pumping action and thought invoking strategizing on the player’s part. The game itself consists of 21 sequentially more challenging levels that force players to think more and more deeply about how to place and angle the materials they’re given, as well as how to angle their one shot once everything’s in place. Additionally, the game uses an authentic physics engine to give its gameplay more life-like dynamics and a truly authentic feel.

Sporting vibrant graphics, Just a Ball comes off looking as crisp and sunny as a day at the beach, a feeling that’s only accentuated by its sun basted blue sky backdrop. The game’s interface is both intuitive and sleek, while the app’s controls display a degree of sensitivity and responsiveness that lets player angle their materials and shoot their ball precisely how they’d like to. A mobile gaming experience that puts the laws of physics – not to mention player’s problem solving acumen – to the test, Just a Ball is just as addicting and enjoyable as it is satisfying to play.

Redneck Jellyfish

media_1307986194101.png

On May 30, 2011, the Phillips’, Keith (Dad), Greyson (12) and Iva (11) released Redneck Jellyfish 1.02 into Apple’s iTunes store. Gus Hickey is a jellyfish. His job is to build coral reefs. Simply tap the screen to make him swim and pick up coral seeds which he uses to grow more coral. Sounds simple, until he starts losing his tentacles to barnacles, crabs, sea urchins and other sea hazards!

"So many games today focus on destroying and tearing something down. With this game, I wanted to be sure the goal was ‘building’ something up", says Keith. They can’t remember how it started with a jellyfish, but the coral idea came from Greyson, who had done some cool sketches with a Sharpy marker that looked like abstract coral.

It took about four months to develop the game. Each played a part in the development. In typical "dad" fashion, Keith wrote most of the code. He used Ansca mobile’s Corona SDK, which made development a breeze. The language was easy to learn and there is a wonderful online community to help solve problems and share code. Iva did the concept sketches for the main character, and Greyson is the voice of Gus. They all collaborated on ideas for over 60 levels.

Keith says, "We kept getting more and more ideas for the game, like eating plankton and shooting fart bubbles at the crabs. Iva was learning about undersea vents and fault zones so she wanted a Volcano World. Greyson came up with pepper plankton, that gives you a speed "power up" to help battle the current. Eventually I had to say ‘enough’! And so we wrapped it up and submitted it to app store".

Texas Monthly BBQ Finder

media_1307986403005.png

Texas Monthly today is pleased to announce the launch of a new website, "Texas Monthly BBQ", and a new free iPhone app, the Texas Monthly BBQ Finder, designed to connect barbecue enthusiasts all over Texas – and around the world. The website and app will help users locate the best barbecue and provide a social network where BBQ joints are discussed, debated, and discovered. Casual observers can drop in to see what others are saying, while serious aficionados can engage in a little friendly competition to see who’s eating the most meat.

Texas Monthly has been covering the legendary pitmasters of the Lone Star State since the 1970’s. Its eagerly anticipated list of the state’s top fifty BBQ joints is considered by many to be the bible of smoked meat in Texas. In 2010, after much demand, the magazine began hosting an annual BBQ Festival, bringing together in one place many of the joints from its last top fifty list (VIP tickets for the 2011 festival go on sale today; general admission tickets are on sale on August 10. Click here for more information).

Drawing on Texas Monthly’s vast trove of knowledge and experience, the new website and app provide users with hundreds of reviews of Texas barbecue joints, all of them conveniently searchable with GPS, so that you’ll always know where the nearest BBQ joint is, and what to order when you get there.

ScaleMaster

media_1307992553475.png

Scales are elementary to all musicianship. They provide flavor and harmonic structure, but are at the same time fairly complex. ScaleMaster is designed to help in several key areas concerning scales. It lists over 100 scale types in all keys and shows them in music notation. There are four different clefs available (treble, bass, alto and tenor). Additionally scale degrees are shown qualified by the interval to the root. To help visualization there are four virtual instruments (bass, guitar, mandolin and piano). These virtual instruments feature overlays that can show scale degrees or position of a note in the current scale and can be shifted to all available positions. ScaleMaster 2.0 is now available at the App Store.

In version 2.0 ScaleMaster’s layout has been optimized greatly to provide a much larger viewing area and displays up to two rows of music notation. Scale’s can now be viewed in any direction or combination thereof. In single row setting up or down ScaleMaster now indicates semitones for all intervals. Also new for the iPhone version is landscape view which allows for a larger instrument area – 7 frets for the guitar, bass and mandolin instruments and over 2 octaves for piano. The center screen toolbar adds two buttons to adjust notation and instrument view detail respectively.

ScaleMaster 2.0 adds a completely new facility called chord matching. With chord matching one selects chord symbols in the matching picker to display a list of all scales that include the complete chord as scale tones. ScaleMaster’s notation view then shows chord tones in red and regular scale tones in black. On play the entire scale is played with the chord at the end. Chord matching comes in very handy when trying to determine which scales to use in improvisation and gives a number of alternatives to one’s go-to scale choices.

Cooktorial implements an easy-to-use interface, a database of over 1,000 recipes, images and thorough description of each recipe, as well as providing the user with the option of filtering the results by preparation time, cuisine type and difficulty level.

Furthermore, with a single tap the user can generate a list with the most commonly found ingredients, which can be easily edited and will be automatically stored for future use.

"We see scrapbooking is a natural fit for iPad, but it needs to be intuitive and easy to use, and we believe Skrappy delivers this", said Daniel Adair, Riada’s CEO. media_1307995206248.png

Independent software development studio, Viki & Joe Software has announced the release and immediate availability of Bela Lugosi – The Master of the Macabre 1.0, an interactive multimedia app designed to discover the life behind one of cinema’s greatest icon, Bela Lugosi for Apple’s revolutionary iPad device.

This app makes your iPad come alive with rich video, audio and superb design. The app features the master of the macabre and provides an understanding of his life work with images and detailed biography. On Valentine’s Day, 1931, Universal Pictures released the silver screen’s first real horror film – Dracula. The movie became a smash hit and commercial success, and propelled its lead actor – the towering and charismatic Bela Lugosi – to film superstardom.

Lugosi was actually a native of the mysterious Romanian land known as Transylvania, a land bathed in the spooky legends of vampires. After becoming a successful stage actor in Budapest, Lugosi immigrated to the United States and won the role of "Dracula" in the original Broadway production. The powerful performance – a perfect showcase for Lugosi’s "erotic charisma" – made the stage show a huge success. His subsequent starring role in the screen adaptation and a series of horror films made him, at one time, "more popular than Clark Gable."
