Mobile Photography Workshop: Storytelling Series With Sion Fullana And Anton Kawasaki – Coming Soon

The STORYTELLING SERIES is a trio of intensive, 10-Day online workshops focusing on capturing compelling images and telling your best stories using only a mobile device. In these workshops you will learn the mechanics of how to tell a great visual story with a single photograph, as well as in a series of photos.

These workshops are brought to you by well-known mobile photographers Sion Fullana and Anton Kawasaki — who have been capturing daily street life/portraits and documenting the world around them for years. Sion & Anton are often asked about their process, style, and approach to taking photos. They are also asked what apps they use, how they take candid photos of strangers without them noticing, and countless other questions about their craft. The answers to these are often hard to explain in just a quick reply on Instagram or Twitter, and deserve a more in-depth and personal analysis.

Talking about what makes a photograph “work” is very difficult to explain using rational logic/judgement, as Sion and Anton work in a more intuitive, empathic, and emotional way. “What makes you connect? How does something/someone make you feel? What attracts your eye and compels you to take a photograph of that subject in that precise instant? What story do you want to tell? What emotion do you feel in front of a scene that you may want to transmit in your photograph?” Working these concepts can really make you change the way you see life and how you interact in the world — how you look at things, how you feel things.

These workshops will set you on your way to improving your photographs and stories, and will ensure the images you capture are more significant for you to keep. These courses are perfect for beginners who are just starting out with shooting on a mobile device, but are also great for intermediate/advanced photographers who want to strengthen the storytelling in their images and get more meaning and impact out of the photos that they take.

Each 10-Day course includes:

  • Compelling photographic and writing assignments that will make you rethink how you take photos and vary your approach.
  • Invaluable 1-to1 personal feedback on ALL photos that you upload to a private class-only content area. Learn what you’re doing right, but more importantly what you may be doing wrong and what areas you need to improve in.
  • Helpful lessons on the very best mobile apps on the market, with post-processing tips & tricks on how to make the most out of your photos.
  • A live motivational group call/hangout to discuss our philosophy on photo-taking more in depth.

There will be three different 10-Day STORYTELLING workshops focusing on different themes:

PORTRAITS (from June 8-17, 2012): Learn how to make the most out of photographing the people you know around you — family, friends, colleagues, loved ones — as well as how to approach perfect strangers. Create one-of-a-kind moments and make your home or the street your own personal studio, as we teach you how to hone your craft to a more professional level. This is the perfect course to start with, as it sets up many basics you’ll need for the other courses.

STREET PHOTOGRAPHY (July 6-July 15, 2012): Improve your confidence in taking candid shots of strangers and train yourself to look for those rare “decisive moments.” Master the art of composition and how to frame your shots to form the perfect narrative. Tell your best story combining images and captions.

DOCUMENTARY/JOURNALISM (August 3-12, 2012): Take your photography to the next level by documenting the world around you! Discover public events happening in your area, or find a subject that intrigues you and learn how to chronicle the most interesting parts with a revealing photo series. And familiarize yourself with one of the basic fundamentals of photography: editing. Some writing is also expected in this course.

(NOTE: We are limiting each of these courses to a maximum of 15 students only. Previous workshops have proven extremely successful with smaller groups, ensuring each student is getting the maximum amount of personal attention. Don’t worry if you miss out, or a course is full — we will be repeating them again later in the year).

Attend just one workshop, or attend them all! A single 10-Day workshop is $120. Any two are $190 (save $50). And all three together are just $240 (save $120)! You can get TWO great teachers and invaluable lessons and feedback on your photos for as little as $8 a day…

Once you register, you will be sent an introductory e-mail the day before each course starts with further instructions for the full course.
