Welcome to our new Photo App Lounge section of theappwhisperer.com. This is a very small area on our site where we ask highly accomplished iPhone photographers what their top five photo apps are and why.
Kicking us off today is Veevs/(Vivi) Hanson. Veevs discovered photography with the advent of digital cameras and ventured into iPhone photography last year. She started experimenting with Hipstamatic and found some amazing websites, (most notably theappwhisperer.com ) and then she was hooked. Veevs recently had three images displayed at the Lunchbox Gallery in Miami, one of her images is still hanging in the Renaissance Gallery in Indianapolis. Veevs also participated in the FX Photo Studio iPhoneography Show and two of her images were chosen and displayed in the Soho Gallery for Digital Art in New York.
We recently interviewed Veevs in our A Day In The Life series, if you missed that you can read it here.
We caught up with Veevs in between shoots and asked her what her top five photo apps are, this is what she said…

‘Hipstamatic got me into iPhoneography! I use it all the time. Love the challenge to decide what look I want in a photo before I take it. I do use different combinations to take the same photo so I don’t just stick to one look. I do tend to app a Hipstamatic image further to achieve a totally different result!’
NB: Veevs used Hipstamatic to take the above image to create a very different look, we love it.
Silver – Snapseed
‘I ditto what all my other fellow iphoneographers have said about Snapseed. I too could not live without it! I would say 95% of my images are apped in Snapseed. It is so easy to use and you can achieve so many different looks. I like playing around with the Drama and Grunge filters’.
Bronze – PhotoToaster

‘Love PhotoToaster so many combinations and so easy to manipulate! PhotoToaster gives you so many wonderful Presets which you can then go on to modify and save your own Presets. Quite a lot of my images have resulted in using PhotoToaster’s random mode (on iPad). The possibilities are endless! Again I would say about 95% of my images are apped with PhotoToaster’.
NB: PhotoToaster was used in this image to help create this stunning effect
Highly Commended: AutoPainter (all three versions)
Pipped At The Post: Iris Photo Suite
‘If I want to blend and mask, add grunge and some amazing effects I use Iris. I do a lot of blending and masking with most of my images so Iris is my go to app. I spend a lot of time adding different filters to an image in Iris, then erasing some of the effects and adding some others. One negative comment (not only coming from me but from lots of iPhoneographers) is how the developer has reduced the file size. We are advised Iris Photo Suite 2 is coming but we are still waiting. …’
NB: We are aware of this issue and have contacted the developer for comment and will feedback soon.
