COLUMNS,  Portrait of an Artist

Mobile Photography – Portrait of an Artist – Eighteenth Video Showcase – TheAppWhisperer

Welcome to our eighteenth Portrait of an Artist Showcase! This Showcase complements our Portrait of an Artist Column edited by Ile Mont. Every two weeks Mont will review and curate work that has been submitted to our dedicated Flickr group. In addition, we will create a showcase video which features a sampling of submitted work, we will also highlight a few images that have caught our attention… offering some thoughtful commentary about technique, composition and subject matter.

If you are not a member of our Facebook group… we highly recommend that you join us! This is our space for sharing newsworthy information and conducting discussions (what, when, where, why and how) regarding mobile portraiture and portraiture in general.

Please join our Facebook group for information sharing/discussions (link here)

‘Homage to Man Ray’ – Armineh Hovanesian

I was totally captivated by this picture because besides of being a very respectful, creative and crafted homage to Man Ray’s piece Les Larmes, it is evident all the dedication and work Armineh Hovanesian put in this piece.  It is indeed very thoughtful and inspired… Looking at the image, I can only imagine her, carefully preparing the makeup, setting up the lighting, composing the body language, and acting this wonderful cinematic expression!  She achieves a great narrative and a beautiful Man Ray’s feeling.

‘Dancing In Red’ – Giancarlo Beltrame

Giancarlo Beltrame’s Dancing in Red is a very impressive portrait filled with motion and passion that flow emotionally from the image to the spectator. The red tonalities he achieved through a very accomplished edit, are warm, seductive and inviting. Movement and light blend in a powerful, yet very sensitive, composition that subtly suggests a beautiful, ethereal, almost magical, dance.
