Mobile Photography / Art – Saturday Poetry – ‘Poem’ – Paul Carroll

Share

This weeks Saturday Poetry, matched with mobile photography/art is entitled ‘Poem’ by Paul Carroll. ‘Poet and editor Paul Carroll was a vital force on the Chicago poetry scene. He was briefly an editor of the Chicago Review (1957-1958), but when he and coeditors were pressured by the university chancellor to remove controversial pieces from an upcoming issue from William Burroughs’s Naked Lunch, he pulled the entire issue and resigned in protest. Carroll founded the little magazine Big Table, where he published the suppressed material; the United States Post Office then seized 400 copies of the first issue and refused to deliver them, declaring the magazine “obscene,” but their decision was appealed and reversed. Carroll would continue to publish work by innovative writers such as Burroughs, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Robert Creeley. He also founded the Poetry Center of Chicago, and in 1985 he won the Chicago Poet’s Award’.

Many of you have already seen our new segment to our APPart column here at TheAppWhisperer, edited by Bobbi McMurry.

We would like to inspire all mobile artists to create one image a day using the selected colour of Pantone’s ‘Color of the Day’ – see here (we will announce the colour each day). As well a ‘Color of the Day’, Pantone also link that colour with adjectives and/or nouns.

For your information Pantone’s ‘Color of the Day’ was originally created by renowned astrologer Michele Bernhardt – you can read more about her here.

Today’s Pantone color of the day is ‘Dusk’ (17-3812) and the accompanying descriptives are ‘Witty, Powerful and Talented’. So, we would like to see your creations using this colour in combination with those words, if possible. It’s a challenge after all!

Once you have created your image, please post it to Instagram with the following hashtag #taw_appart_coloroftheday (please don’t forget the underscores). We will view each uploaded image a day and select a winning creation and this will be published to our main website here as well as being featured throughout our vast social media channels. Many of you have already seen our new segment to our APPart column here at TheAppWhisperer, edited by Bobbi McMurry.

Welcome to our twenty first Portrait of an Artist Showcase! This Showcase complements our Portrait of an Artist Column edited by myself. Every two weeks I review and curate work that has been submitted to our dedicated Flickr group. In addition, Joanne Carter creates a showcase video which features a sampling of submitted work, we will also highlight a few images that have caught our attention… offering some thoughtful commentary about technique, composition and subject matter.

If you are not a member of our Facebook group… we highly recommend that you join us! This is our space for sharing newsworthy information and conducting discussions (what, when, where, why and how) regarding mobile portraiture and portraiture in general.

Please join our Facebook group for information sharing/discussions (link here)

Mobile Photography / Art Tutorial – Pixagram: What Exactly Have We Got Here?

Share

We are delighted to publish Jerry Jobe’s latest mobile photography/art tutorial for our viewing pleasure. This time Jobe takes a look at the app Pixagram. Take it away Jerry…(foreword by Joanne Carter).

“I haven’t really become visible enough, even after writing articles about nearly 150 apps (more than 100 republished on the awesome and highly visible App Whisperer site), to have developers asking me to try out their apps for free. Therefore, I’m constantly on the lookout, like my readers, for free apps that give me value. Today’s app, Pixagram by Pierre Gougelet, has often been offered for free on the App Store.

A little over two years ago, I covered two other Gougelet apps, XnShape and XnRetro. There are a whole suite of “Xn” apps, each competent in their own way. Pixagram seems to be an attempt to step away from the Xn series. As it turns out, it’s not a very big step.

Pixagram is a filtering app, with a couple of nice effects that are somewhat modifiable. Whether that will be of value to you will probably be answered in this column”.
