The Guetta Fringe – A ‘New’ Form of Artistic Installation…

I have an idea. It’s a big idea and involves each and everyone of you in the ‘Mobile Arts Community.’ It involves a collective creation. A form of artistic installation which can be sent to whomever wants it hung along their next gallery show, at their next home party or at the next Mobile Arts Festival wherever and whenever that might be. (create a reason and it’s shipped)

The last time a project of this magnitude was created was in 1980 when artist Judy Chicago conceptualised and actualised a giant quilt with the help of different women or groups honouring and addressing individually selected women, women’s organisations or women’s issues, honoured by Chicago’s The Dinner Party.

I propose that we create our very own quilt. I suggest we go about it this way:

1. All participants simply travels to a tee shirt printing outlet with a 4”x4” piece of non stretchy fabric and a file of a fave image. (If this is too much of a hassle, everyone sends me a file..I then print on fabric.)

2. Sends the square to a quilter who will sew the quilt together. Done…. Easy Peasy.

The quilt, once finished can now be photographed so we can all rejoice and appreciate its awesomeness.

Anytime a participant wants the quilt for whatever reason, the collective can all chip in to cover the shipping costs.

There you have it; The big idea done and dusted, ready to commemorate our bond as artists and creators.
