Mobile Photography – TrueView Interview – ‘Why I Create Self Portraiture with a Smartphone’ with Violet Martins from Brazil

Share

Our TrueView Interview section is an area where we ask one singular question, to mobile photographers and artists and it is captured to video. This time, we asked accomplished Mobile Photographer and Artist, Violet Martins from Brazil to consider and answer ‘why I create self portraiture with my smartphone’. Martins created the video below and replied in text to this thought, “The reason I take self portraitures, is because I can! I don’t have to ask and I can edit as I imagine as I go on“. I would say that knowing Martins, as I do there’s more to this than meets the eye. If we are to consider that for many, the female impulse to struggle free from social and belletristic confinement, through strategic reformulation of the individual, art and society, then through this paradigm of self portraiture we can observe how it distinctively complements female anxieties, we’ll be a little closer…

Many artists are working on their videos right now and each video is as unique and individual as each artist. We are fully conscious and respectful that you are all capturing a part of yourself and sharing it with us and we love it.

Thank you for being a reader and viewer of our wonderful site. If you would like to view our previous TrueView Interviews, please go here.

Photography – Capturing Watson – An Interview with Albert Watson

Share

I am a huge fan of Albert Watson OBE, so when Taschen sent me this interview, I thought I would share it with you too. Watson has just completed a new book with Taschen, entitled KAOS. The book is not only oozing with dazzling subjects but also, the well known ravishing Taschen quality, of which, there’s nothing really like it. KAOS spans nearly half a century of photography to encounter stars, statesmen, women, and strangers; bound through neon-blazing cities; find figures poised, gymnastic, or shimmering with nude eroticism; roam the bright lights and the backstreets; soak up extravagant sunsets; enter the controlled studio environment; and breathe in the elemental wilds of the photographer’s native Scotland.

This book is limited to a total of 1,200 numbered copies signed by Albert Watson, this book is available as a Collector’s Edition (No. 201–1,200), and also as four signed Art Editions of 50 copies each (No. 1–200), all with a signed print. It currently retails for £1,150. To find out more, or to place an order, go here.

Mobile Photography – iPhone X Battery Size Larger

Share

Interestingly enough, news just in, confirms that the battery size of the awaited iPhone X is larger than the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. The iPhone X will contain a 2,715mAh battery, the iPhone 8 sports a 1,821mAH and the iPhone 8 Plus a 2,675mAh cell. Random Access Memory (RAM) capacity, which is essentially memory, not to be confused with storage space, is also larger on the iPhone X, it weighs in with 3GB in total, that’s more than the iPhone 8 but is equivalent to the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 7 Plus. All these issues are crucial to mobile photographers, good news.

Mobile Photography – WaterField Designs iPhone Compact Case Review

Share

Like many mobile photographers I have been searching for an androgynous, inconspicuous, compact case to carry my iPhone and the various lenses, tripods, cables, I have acquired, without being too large, for some time. Finally, I have found it! This week Waterfield Designs, based in San Francisco, United States, kindly sent me their brand new iPhone compact case in premium full grain leather to review. This case has a super tight grain and resists moisture to a good degree, the waterproof zipper proves its worth. This case is also available in vegan 1050 Denier Ballistic Nylon, if you prefer, no animal products are used in this version at all, even the label is woven instead of traditional leather.

This small longitudinal case fulfils my mobile photography needs. It can carry one large device, iPhone Plus size or smaller, along with four small lenses, the adjustable dividers ensure valuables are held securely. The interior is completely soft-lined and the body is encapsulated in dense foam for additional protection. There’s a pocket for an external battery supply (small one) as well as a zippered mesh pocket for other small items. On the base of the case there are expandable bands for securing a mini tripod. There is also an adjustable shoulder strap that I personally prefer to use but there are also loops on the back of the case, if you prefer to hook it onto a belt, if you’re wearing trousers.

The premium leather version of this case retails for $129. The black ballistic nylon case is $99. If you’re in the market for a small iPhone photography case, this one is worthy of consideration. Take a look at the video below. To find out more, go here.
