Camera+ iOS Photography App – Updated with RAW and More!

Share

Camera+ has been updated today with extensive support for the dual lenses of the iPhone 7 Plus. “You’re now able to explicitly choose to shoot with the wide angle or telephoto lens so you can get exactly the lens you desire for the given shooting situation. If you prefer the simplicity of not having to think about those sorts of things like lens pickin’, you can just keep the lens switcher set to Duo mode and let your iPhone 7 Plus do its magic”, explain the developers, taptaptap, of this hugely popular (over 10 million sold) app.

Interestingly, they say, “one thing worth knowing along these lines is that in Apple’s Camera app, the 2× zoom button sort of implies that it behaves as a wide angle / tele switcher, but it’s actually not (sometimes it’s a wide/tele switcher… sometimes it’s a 2× digital zoom button… and sometimes it’s something else altogether). The “tell” here is if you set it to 2× then put a finger over the tele lens (the one on the right side if you’re looking at the back of the phone). If you’re expecting to snap a pic of your finger, you’ll be surprised in some situations… when lighting conditions are relatively dark, the system will use the wide angle lens (to prevent an underexposed photo, since the tele lens has a higher ƒ-number of 2.8 than the wide angle lens’ ƒ-number of 1.8… in other words, this somewhat confusingly means it has a smaller aperture, which therefore lets in less light). Now to make a long story even longer, one of the benefits of the dual lenses is that the system can combine info from both lenses, resulting in a better photo than one taken with a single lens. In any case, we’ve implemented our Duo lens mode to be consistent with Apple’s Camera behavior, but we’ve also enabled you to choose precisely which lens you want. Hopefully at least some of you will have found at least some of this informative. Undoubtedly, some others of you have had a flashback to some high school science class, have fallen asleep by now, and are drooling on your desk.”

Camera+ retails for $2.99 and you can download it here

Share

Adobe have today announced updates for Lightroom Mobile as well as to Lightroom CC, and Adobe Camera Raw.

Lightroom for iPhones includes a new edit experience, a new info section, a new capture interface with a brand new professional mode, support for all of the latest cameras and lenses provided in today’s Adobe Camera Raw and Lightroom releases, as well as bug fixes and improvements. Lightroom for iPads adds in the new capture interface, camera and lens support, and bug fixes, and Lightroom for Android provides support for new cameras and lenses as well as bug fixes.

Lightroom has always been about helping you get the most out of your images, and with Lightroom for Android 2.2, you can now import raw files directly into your Android device. The Raw Technology Preview makes it possible for you to connect your camera to your Android device and import photos directly from your camera. With this Technology Preview now available for Android (released for iOS in July of this year), you can capture, edit, and share raw photos, in full resolution, and have access to them wherever you are in the world.

The teams for both Lightroom for iPads as well as Lightroom for Android are also working on adding in the new edit and info experiences and we hope to release those updates soon.

Here’s a link to a series of of videos by Adobe’s very own Julieanne Kost. She has covered Lightroom Mobile from end-to-end, including these new features – all free.

New App on the Streetography

Share

There’s a pretty cool smart new app on the street, going by the name of Streetography. Now this app helps you to explore new areas by crowd sourcing locations and information. It’s like a Maps for Instagram. By utilising 500px, Streetography essentially puts other photographers images on the map to help you explore.

By viewing images of streets, through other photographers lenses, it helps you, discern where you might want to visit. Interested in street art? See if you can see any images of street art in that vicinity via the app.

This is a new and upcoming app, it aims to branch out with locations portrayed throughout the world. I think this app has promise.

If you want to try it, you can download it for free, here.

Mobile Photography / Movies App – Koji Go for iPhone

Share

We all know that the iPhone has become a real filmmaking tool and it is so good that this knowledge is filtering out into the professional film world. Koji Go is a simple iOS app that lets you apply Koji film emulation to your iPhone photos and videos. Koji Go comes with 3 versatile motion picture film stocks, and you can explore 16 more looks in the Koji Go store.

The looks in Koji Go were developed by Dale Grahn, a longtime partner in developing Koji and the color timer for Steven Spielberg and Francis Ford Coppola (among many others). Dale developed these looks specifically to work with iPhone images. The looks are based on his work on various films, including Minority Report, Gladiator, Amistad, and others.

To create the film stocks in Koji Go, the developers worked with film labs (both photochemical and digital) to make thousands of careful measurements of real physical 35mm motion picture film stock. They then adapted this, with Dale’s help, to work with the iPhone camera. The result is a film lab that you can hold in your hand and we like it! If you want to make further color tweaks to your video, you’ll be able to transfer it from the app to Koji Advance for Final Cut X.

The Koji Go app is available for $2.99/£2.29 and you can download it here.

Adobe Lightroom for iOS 2.2 – Now Available

Share

Lightroom 2.2 for iOS is here, and brings a range of improvements, including an oft-requested feature: full resolution output. With version 2.2, Adobe have added the ability for Lightroom mobile to output full resolution files for any file that was either captured on the device or added to the device, either through the camera connection kit, transferred via Wi-Fi from a camera directly, or transferred to the device via services like email, Dropbox, or Google Drive. Additionally, any files that were added directly to an iPhone or iPad are transferred in full resolution to other mobile devices signed into the same account. This way, files captured with your iPhone are available for further editing and exporting from your iPad, in full resolution and vice-versa.

A point to note is that Lightroom for iOS does not currently support RAW files. Lightroom for Android supports DNG files only. A spokesman for Adobe explained that they are aware of the demand for RAW file support and are contuing to explore that area.

The full list of improvements are:

  • New: Full resolution output. Now, export and share photos that were captured on your device or that you added to your device at full resolution.
  • Updated: 3D Touch support in the Camera Roll browser view. Quickly preview your image with Peek & Pop when browsing Camera Roll photos in the app.
  • Fixed: Issue that lead to a potential crash.
  • Improved: Various bugs and issues.

Lightroom mobile 2.2 is available immediately for iPhones and iPads from the App Store.

New Selfie App Allows You To Order Your Perfectly Fitted Bra From Home – Raises $8m in Funding

Share

Personally, whenever I need a new bra I book a fitting in a good lingerie store. That way I can be ensured of the most luxurious, sumptuous and perfect fit and most women will admit, there’s not much more delicious and heavenly than a correctly fitted and supportive bra. You may be wondering why I am telling you this, although I’m sure it aroused your interest, well the reason is, a startup company called ThirdLove has just raised $8m funding supported by a long list of big fashion houses and names, even American Express have chipped in.  Thirdlove is utlisling imaging technonglies to help the customer find the correct size bra through a series of selfies that you take within the app. The app then processes and reassigns two dimensional images, into three dimensional shapes and matches them to its database of own-brand bras.

“ThirdLove is breaking through industry norms to create bras that simply are a better fit and more comfortable throughout the day than what women currently have in their lingerie drawers”, said Lori Greeley, who served as CEO of Victoria’s Secret Stores until 2013. “With the 24/7 collection in particular, they are capturing what real women expect from a modern wardrobe — style and function.”

ThirdLove are offering a ‘free trial’ of a t-shirt bra. To find out more go here. You can view a video below of the making of this bra too.
