Snapzoom Mobile Phone Digiscoping Adapter and Giveaway

Share

Many thanks to my good friend Erin Lodin who I worked with at Dpreview.com sometime ago. Since leaving there, Lodin has been working with a innovative company producing a product called Snapzoom thus developing digiscoping adaptors for mobile phones.

Snapzoom offers the facility to use binoculars, spotting scopes, telescopes and microscopes as accessory lenses. These devices use high quality glass lenses to increase the power of the smartphone’s camera, and produce rich, tack-sharp macro and telephoto images, as opposed to using your inbuilt digital zoom on your smartphone.

Snapzoom are currently offering a giveaway of a pair of Bushnell binoculars or a Snapzoom Universal Digiscoping Adapter – To enter the giveaway, share your favorite Snapzoom photos of summer fun. Just tag your photo #Snapzoomcontest.  Every photo you post on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #Snapzoomcontest is worth two entries.

Digital Photography Book Giveaway – ‘Mrs. Merryman’s Collection’

Share

We don’t just giveaway mobile photography apps and hardware here at TheAppWhisperer.com, we also giveaway photography books!  We are delighted to announce our association with MACK and will be offering a series of digital books over the coming weeks to our loyal readers.

Anne-Marie Merryman collected postcards between 1937 and 1980, a collection inherited by her granddaughter, Anne Sophie Merryman.

The book, Mrs. Merryman’s Collection, presents the postcards which together form the story of two intertwined lives – one life lived travelling the world through the postcard images, the other a child and then adult whose life and relationship to her own history and her future were influenced by the collection.

While Anne-Marie and Anne Sophie never met, both their lives were inspired by the postcard collection – a relationship that was born, and continues to flourish, in the realms of the imagination.

Mrs. Merryman’s Collection is the winner of the First Book Award 2012, an award by the National Media Museum and MACK to support the publication of a book by a previously unpublished photographer.

Digital Photography Book Giveaway – ‘The Nature of Photography & The Photography of Nature’

Share

We don’t just giveaway mobile photography apps and hardware here at TheAppWhisperer.com, we also giveaway photography books!  We are delighted to announce our association with MACK and will be offering a series of digital books over the coming weeks to our loyal readers.

The Photography of Nature & The Nature of Photography by Catalan photographer Joan Fontcuberta, explores the artifice at the heart of photography – testing the limits of our faith in photographs as he creatively mixes fact with fiction, and science with art.

Fontcuberta is the 33rd recipient of the prestigious Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography, and this digital edition celebrating the award is a survey of Fontcuberta’s oeuvre, including six of his most iconic photographic series: Herbarium (1984) and Fauna (1987), dealing with botanical and biological findings of newly discovered species; Constellations (1993), images of previously undiscovered stars and their stardust; Sputnik (1997), which tells the tale of a Russian cosmonaut still lost in space; Sirens (2000), an investigative project for National Geologic on the finding of the Hydropithecus (mermaid) fossils; and Orogenesis (2002) in which Fontcuberta explores landscapes using Terragen technologies.

Fontcuberta’s photography is itself about photography’s own workings as a system of representation, as he exploits our desire to believe what we see in a photograph. The ebook includes essays by Geoffrey Batchen and Jorge Wagensberg that unpick the myths Fontcuberta has so meticulously constructed.

Digital Photography Book Giveaway – ‘People in Trouble, Laughing Pushed To The Ground’

Share

We don’t just giveaway mobile photography apps and hardware here at TheAppWhisperer.com, we also giveaway photography books!  We are delighted to announce our association with MACK and will be offering a series of digital books over the coming weeks to our loyal readers.  To get things started today we are announcing a new digital edition of Adam Broomberg & Oliver Chanarin’s ‘People In Trouble Laughing Pushed To The Ground’, complete with exclusive essays, an audio and video guide and additional archival material.

The digital edition recontextualises the original work published by MACK in 2011, in which the artists selected images from the Belfast Exposed archive according to a code – the stickers that successive archivists put on the contact sheets as markers. In this edition, each plate is accompanied by an audio clip of its title, read by Belfast curator Rachel Brown, and accessed by the tap of a finger. Oliver Chanarin introduces the ideas behind the project in a video introduction, and the ebook contains three illuminating texts: the first by Pauline Hadaway, director of Belfast Exposed, reflecting on the complex evolution of the archive; a text by photographer Mervyn Smyth, who provides personal and political context to his selection of archival images; and a statement on the commissioning process of People In Trouble and its group exhibition ‘Prima Materia’ by curators Rachel Brown & Brighdín Farren.

Here is a link to the orginal printed version of this book too.

TheAppWhisperer at The Photography Show 2015 – Seduced by Jackery – Portable Battery Chargers

Share

Well, you know, I had such a fabulous time at The Photography Show 2015, hopefully you’ve read about my seminars, if not, I have a special section for you to indulge yourselves, here. One thing I haven’t mentioned yet though, is the fun I had with the mobile photography hardware that I was sent and demonstrated on stage.

A common question we’re asked here at TheAppWhisperer.com is ‘what’s the best portable battery charger for my mobile phone/device?’.  We have looked at a lot and we are currently being seduced by Jackery’s gorgeous devices.  Their slogan ’empowering life on the go’ is an important one, not least when it comes to mobile photography and art, we’re all so dependant on portable power.

I was sent three devices to demonstrate, the Giant+, the Bar and the Mini. I will detail more information about them below.

Jackery HQ are a very communicative and generous company we will be detailing a reader giveaway tomorrow and following that up with a discount code for all of our readers too, so hold tight before purchasing. Make sure you check back tomorrow for more details.
