Huawei Launches Pop-Up Gallery to Celebrate Winners of Community Photography Initiative

Share

Huawei today announced the launch of a new pop-up gallery in the heart of East London to celebrate the winners of the Huawei and Dazed Reveal The Real You community-led photography initiative. Open to the public from Thursday 8th March – Sunday 11th March at Top Office Machines, 133-135 Bethnal Green Road, London, E2 7DG, the gallery will feature imagery from Anthony Shintai Amao, Kat Collins and Sahvannah Amaka, all shot on the Huawei P10 smartphone, in addition to a book which has been produced to document the project and partnership with Dazed.

The Reveal The Real You initiative saw up and coming photographers from around the UK challenged to document and celebrate communities and causes they feel passionately about through a series of 10 striking images. From capturing the underground breakdancing scene in Birmingham to showcasing South London’s young and innovative jazz musicians and celebrating the careful motion and order that lies at the heart of dance, the three prize winners being showcased in the pop-up gallery were chosen by a panel of expert independent judges and highlight how different communities come together through technology, art, culture, music and dance. The three winners, chosen from a shortlist of 20 final submissions, were each awarded a £10,000 bursary to donate to a community cause or initiative of their choice – Break Mission, Shoreditch Youth Dance and The Camberwell After School Project.

To celebrate the culmination of the initiative, the free pop-up gallery will be an opportunity for locals to explore the winning shots and learn more about the inspirational stories of people who are empowered by Huawei technology.

The gallery will also be running a portrait photography studio from 12pm – 5pm on Saturday 10th March in collaboration with The Photocopy Club. Taking inspiration from the Reveal the Real You campaign and the powerful photography produced by the three winners, the pop-up portrait studio will combine technology and creativity to create a piece of art in real time.

Visitors to the gallery will be invited to have their portrait taken on a Huawei P10 in the studio, which will then be printed out and added to a wall in the gallery as part of a growing art exhibition. Each participant will get their own black & white Xerox portrait to take away with them, and at the end of the day all the portraits will be made in to a zine.

Mobile Photography – Samsung Galaxy Note 8 – ‘Best Smartphone for Zoom’

Share

DxOMark, is the trusted industry standard for camera and lens image quality measurements and ratings. TheAppWhisperer has as intense association with this company and they have just published their latest test results on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Paul Carroll the writer for this review explains that the “Note 8 becomes the new joint leader for smartphone image quality alongside Apple’s iPhone 8 Plus. A phenomenal photo sub-score that breaks new ground as the first smartphone to hit 100 points makes the Note 8 the current class-leader for stills, thanks to excellent zoom quality, good noise reduction and detail preservation, as well as fast and accurate autofocus. The Note 8 doesn’t quite match the same heights for video, where its sub-score of 84 is a little behind the best performers, such as the Google Pixel with 91 points, or the iPhone 8 Plus and the HTC U11, both with 89. It’s still a very capable device for video, however, with its key strengths being good exposure with fast convergence, fast and stable autofocus, as well as good noise reduction, white balance, and color rendering”. This result puts the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 on a par with the iPhone 8 Plus – very interesting, to read more, go here.
