Creative Compositing – By Irene Oleksiuk
We were delighted when Irene Oleksiuk a very talented mobile photographer contacted us to tell us about the inspiring photography workshop she attended ‘Creative Compositing’ lead by Mark S Johnson earlier this summer. We’ll let her tell you more about it in her own words below, over to you Irene (foreword by Joanne Carter). “As Mobile photographers, we know how great our little devices are at taking images and how advanced some of the apps are. I want to share with the readers of The App Whisperer and experience that showed me how true this is. This June I was attending a photography workshop in Boulder Colorado called “Creative…

Creative Mobile Photography Tutorial By Natali Prosvetova
First of all I must warn you, I am not sure that this tutorial will be so interesting and really useful for all readers…At least, this work is one of narrowly focused style, as well as, it is the result of manipulation and the imagination of a mad scientist)) However, I received several inquiries for clarification on creating this work and I hope that this lesson will inspire you to create your personal art-vibration (abstractions). Accordingly, below will be presented just technical explanation. If you’re still here, let’s start 😉 1. First things first, I processed one pic from my archive using one of my favorite apps Decim8. So,…

iPhone Photography Video Workflow By Paul Brown
We’re delighted to publish Paul Brown’s latest workflow tutorial – this time he has taken a different approach and used video to explain. It’s fascinating and excellently put together, we think you’ll enjoy this a lot. We have published several of Paul Brown’s workflows recently, if you’ve missed those, please go here. Over to you Paul (foreword by Joanne Carter)… Originally a very static Hipstamatic capture, ‘tennis’ was processed to introduce movement and a vintage black and white iPhoneography look. This tutorial includes a real-time narrated video workflow and slows the pace right down to look at just a small handful of iPhoneography apps that I use…

Tangent iOS Photo App Tutorial – By MaryJane Sarvis
Tangent, the recently released photography/design app is a very simple to use yet potentially powerful tool. This first example demonstrates a texture I picked up from the web, put through a Tangent trip, then 2 ReTangents. This app is loaded with possibilities! We’ll look at a few paths to take. Tangent retails for $0.99/£0.69 and you can download it here. The UI is very clean and easy. Your first choice is whether to shoot from in app or import from camera roll. Second choice is whether to ‘start fresh’ or begin with using one of the 15 design templates. If you Start Fresh you can jump into the…

Moku Hanga, ShockMyPic and TangledFX iPhone Photography/Art Apps – Comparison
There’s been some chat around the mobile art community app fans about 3 somewhat similar apps. Moku Hanga, ShockMyPic and TangledFX. I’ve been a big fan and consistent user of the older Moku and SMP and now Tangled has joined in. The effects on all 3 have quite a range yet can all be used for a certain similar effect which many artists put to good use. (Here’s where I should have asked Cindy and a few other fans to use their names/work as reference) When going for a painterly look, which highlights and strengthens both shape and volume in a composition, these apps do a fine job. Here’s a…

Mobile Photography Tutorial – Using Layover and Diptic To Create A Composite Image
I’ve recently noticed that a number of the digital artists are creating some wonderful composite images using different frame-within-a-frame techniques. Seeing these images got me inspired to give this a try. While I know of one app that has several of its filters that will do this for you…as long as you’re willing to accept their formatting and effects. Instead of using this app, I decided to use Diptic and Layover to create my own composite image. If you haven’t tried Diptic or Layover yet, you can download them here: Diptic/$0.99/£0.69/download Layover/$0.99/£0.69/download Since I like challenges I also decided to use just one source image…and one that in…
