Mobile Photography – Instagram TAKEOVER with @italianbrother – Days 8 – 10

Share

We are so excited with our latest Instagram TAKEOVER this time with @italianbrother – Dilshad Corleone from England, UK. He is a respected and very talented mobile street photographer. @italianbrother has been granted full access to our Instagram account and he is doing a very impressive job. We are very proud of him!

On Day 8 he selected a wonderful image by @iphonefineartphotography and he writes “I remember walking down the shores of Kent, on a windy wintery day, huge swollen waves of a cold sea rising majestically, and this old man, with his Sherlock Holmes’ hat and a Barbour parka, relentlessly fighting the bitter chill, with the hope of a big catch, I thought; yet, when approached I asked him why, and he merely said it’s good for the soul, the only moment of utter freedom in a prison society. He was true, and true is this photo! Thank you for tagging!”

On Day 9 he selected a wonderful image by @jujufolies and he writes “Long time ago on an autumn’s night, a face, memories of days passed, the drops of rain, that sound, your face, the smile, your eyes, a love story in the making… or maybe not… so many questions… thank you for tagging!!!!”

On Day 10 he selected a wonderful image by @sevenography and he writes “Portrait photography and poetry have a lot in come, both inspire strong feelings!!!! They make you stop and wonder, think, ponder, they want to make you want more! And same is the case for this wonderful and mysterious shot! Thank you for tagging!”

Please take a look at our @TheAppWhisperer Instagram account to follow all the goings on and please also tag your images with #TheAppWhisperer, so that they can be found and potentially featured.

And, it’s about to get even more exciting because Halide has been updated and this update brings in the Apple Watch as a companion app. It allows you to remotely preview and take shots – acting as a remote trigger (with live preview)! This is exciting and to launch this new update Halide is currently on sale for $2.99 instead of the more usual price of $4.99 – click here to download!

Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 27 May 2018

Share

This whole showcase is theatre. We open with ‘Red Heart (peel)’ by highly accomplished mobile artist, Poetic Medium who describes her inspiration of her work (in our interview in full here), as ‘the poetry of modern living’. It is an expression of the beliefs of the majority, I would say. Poetic Medium, understands that art should be experienced by both body and mind, by hands, touch as well as eyes and sight. This showcase expresses this view, my curation is not always to create something wholly new but to draw attention to what is already there. As you penetrate this body of art, you’ll become aware of its fluidity and this has something to do with the generosity and openness that we share and embrace within our community of mobile artists.  Enjoy!

Thank you to all artists for submitting your works. If you would like your work to be considered for entry in to our weekly Mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group, please submit it to our dedicated group, here.

Interview Magazine Goes Bankrupt, Shuts Down..

Share

I’m an optimist but there are times when I’m tested. This week Andy Warhol’s magazine, Interview has declared bankruptcy and shut down. I loved Interview magazine, each interview was richly raw, many conducted with celebrities whilst in bed (at least the ones I read). Shy of its 50th anniversary, it’s gone. Same is true for Shutterbug this week too, at least in its current print form, Dan Havlik (friend and Editor-in-Chief of of Shutterbug) has explained that it will continue strongly online.

Sadly none of this remarkable to me, I practiced my trade in print, long before digital and many of the photography magazines I edited, folded too…

So, what may Warhol have to say about this, if he could, perhaps he might repeat this quote “being good in business is the most fascinating kind of art. Making money is art and working is art and good business is the best art”.

App Of The Day – BrushStroke In Association with The National Gallery (and it’s free for the weekend)

Share

I have known about this collaboration for a few weeks and am very excited to reveal it today. Unfortunately there wasn’t time to add TheAppWhisperer into this collaboration, but the National Gallery and the team behind Brushstroke (Code Organa), did try very hard.  To celebrate The Credit Suisse Exhibition: Monet & Architecture, The National Gallery have teamed up with Brushstroke app to offer you a free app download (usually $/£3.99) and a chance to enter their photography competition.

You’re all invited to follow @national_gallery on Instagram and use the Brushstroke app to experiment with filters, and share an image featuring architecture near you, inspired by the exhibition.

‘Monet & Architecture’ is the first ever exhibition looking at Monet’s career through the buildings he painted: in Normandy, in Rouen, in Paris, London, and Venice. From buildings in villages and by the coast, to some of Europe’s most famous monuments, Monet painted the architecture of his time – modern, historic, simple, and grand.

The exhibition brings together over 75 paintings by Monet, and shows how Monet used architecture to create his compositions, both in his most famous paintings and lesser-known works.

Follow @national_gallery on Instagram and share your image with us using the hashtag #MonetBrushstroke, or you can email your entry to ecrm@ng-london.org.uk.

The competition opens on 25 May at 10am BST and closes on 28 May at 11.59pm BST.

One winner will receive a framed print of their winning image with free shipping, courtesy of Brushstroke App and CanvasPop. The winner will also receive a pair of tickets to ‘The Credit Suisse Exhibition: Monet & Architecture’ in London, the exhibition catalogue and a creative goody bag from the National Gallery Company Ltd.

The Brushstroke app is free to download (and it’s rarely free) until midnight on Monday 28 May, when the competition closes.
