“It is a difficult task to pick out mobile photography¯artwork that matters to me because there’s just too much that matters a great deal to me. I put off this task for weeks, at last sitting down on Thanksgiving to honor Joanne’s invitation, thank all these artists and bring them to your attention if you don’t already know their work.

My earliest memories of seeing mobile art were of a couple of images by Natali Prosvetova and Karen Divine. I don’t remember them specifically or I’d dig them up. What I do remember is that they were beautifully nuanced composites. It stopped me dead in my tracks seeing they were made by women using their iPhones. In 2009. My entire life changed afterwards. At this point, the folks below are artists whose continued commitment to mobile image making deeply nourishes and supports my own”.

“Everything evolves, there are no eternal realities: just as there are no absolute truths.”

(Nietzsche, 1878)

As in a Rorschach test, in choosing the images for this presentation, I had the distinct impression of showing more than the photographs I so much admire, much of my essence and the content that inhabits me.

In irrational art there is a valuation in relation to the unconscious that is portrayed through the dream, where the ideas that arise to the mind do not have an order or organisation, being visible in the surrealist works the variety of present elements and a certain confusion that bind the observer to the photograph.

Man-Ray makes the distinction in his photographic work between two contradictory worlds, between the real and the inexplicable. He affirmed that the resolution of the future would be found through two states, reality and dream”

New Projects – Our New Form of Artistic Installation aka ‘The Quilt’ Is Ready!

Share

We’re delighted to inform our readers that the quilt that so many of you contributed to, has now been completed. For those of you not aware of this project, it involved mobile artists contributing one image and each one was then carefully included within a large quilt to be displayed at the next gallery show or even Mobile Arts Festival. There has been a few obstacles along the way and we have overcome each one. This quilt was sewed together and finalised by none other than mobile artist, Lorenka Campos’ mother in law. We all owe her much gratitude. The quilt is now with Lorenka Campos, so if you would like to display it at your next event, please contact her for details.

I have also been reminded and I shouldn’t have needed to be however, “Linda Toki did the whole layout of the quilt and had it printed. She also spent days working on the catalog so I really think she deserves a shout out as the quilt would never have happened without her”. We all need to give huge thanks to Linda M. Toki – join me!!
