It is professional and the artists that create these masterpieces transfigured, by mysticism, are ethereal and pure. Their understanding of the modern world and its technologies predict the future, here lies a legacy… the frame is open…Enjoy!

Mobile Photography Awards Sixth Annual Awards – Results!

Share

We’re delighted to reveal that the Mobile Photography Awards (MPA) 2016 Results have now been announced. As always we (I speak as a member of the Jury) were succumbed by the wealth of talent displayed across our screens. We’ve had more entries to this competition than ever before and the quality of submissions has been totally outstanding across all the categories. Personally, it was an honour for me to be asked to be a key member of this jury for the 5th consecutive year by founder of the Mobile Photography Awards, Daniel Berman and also to serve with James Bacchi, Annette Schutz, Evgeny Tchebotarev, Jen Pollack Bianco, Brendan O Se, Susannah Perlman, Stefano Fantoni, Sheldon Serkin, Andy Butler and Christopher Wahl.

Many congratulations to all the 2016 MPA category winners and honourable mentions and of course, a special shout out to the grand prize winner Giles Clarke. A professional photo journalist, born in London in 1965, he began taking pictures seriously in Berlin in the mid 1980’s. In 1995, he moved to New York City where he began an intense year in the Richard Avedon studio. A decade long career producing television for Channel 4 UK in Hollywood was to follow. In more recent times, Giles began the serious work & dedication of activism starting with a 6-week stint in Bhopal, India where he filmed & photographed the victims of the Union Carbide gas tragedy that still continues to haunt the inhabitants of that city. He scoops the grand prize money of $3,000.

I have listed every first prize winner, with their winning image as well as each and every runner up for all sections of this competition below. Huge congratulations to you all!

Mobile Photography StreetWise Eighth Challenge Results ‘People Working on the Street’

The magic of the street is the mingling of the errand and the epiphany” Rebecca Solnit

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to our Eighth StreetWise Challenge  ‘People Working in the Street.’ We are thrilled to share it with you!

Thank you so much for participating and sharing your wonderful photographs. Lee and I were delighted by all the beautiful submissions to this fun challenge. It was particularly fascinating for us to see how people work in the streets in neighbourhoods from around the world and our showcase beautifully reflects a global coming together.

As always, Lee and I hope you enjoy the showcase as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

A reminder — we choose images for the showcase that are in keeping with our group intention and guidelines  “We believe that it is important to focus on the key aspects of street photography  composition, timing, juxtaposition, catching the decisive moment  rather than relying on too much apping. We therefore feel that apping should be kept to a minimum  cropping, tweaking exposure, colour, adding a grain or texture is okay, but we would like to see you steer away from overly app’ed images that are more art oriented or painterly.”

If you are a mobile street photographer, please consider joining our growing community.

To those new to our street photography community, welcome – it is great to have you join us!

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 26 June 2016

“Never say you know the last word about any human heart”, a quotation by Henry James from the rich tapestry of a book I am currently reading, Any Human Heart by William Boyd. Art links all around us and we need to be able to tie it altogether, to make it whole. Human expression within this weeks mobile photography and art Flickr Group Showcase, speaks to us. Worldly wise, yet perilously frail, many of these images demonstrate the agony and ecstasy of love and life lived. This weeks showcase is a wholly humane romance and a worthy treat for all of us. Enjoy!

If you would like your work to be considered for entry into our weekly Mobile Photography and Art flickr group, please submit it to our dedicated group, here. If you would like to view our previous Flickr Group Showcases (please go here).

Mobile Photography – StreetWise – First Challenge Results

Share

Welcome to our first ‘StreetWise’  monochrome challenge showcase honouring the roots of the incredible art of street photography!

We looked at each photograph with care and consideration and are thrilled to share this video with you. Ilana and I hope you enjoy seeing this compilation of photos by our wonderful street photography community. (Please feel free to invite others to the group that you feel may be interested, also).

Many congratulations to the following artists for being featured:

Allyson Marie, Kate Zari Roberts, Giulia Baita, Ile Mont, Dina lfs, Maurizio Zanetti, Gillian Brodie, Jo Sullivan, Gina Costa, Ocean Morisset, Christine Mignon, Deena Berton, Vanessa Vox, Gergely Hando, Connie Gardner Rosenthal, Liliana Schwitter, Susan Rennie, Sukru Mehmet Omur, Stef L.P.

Our intention for the challenges is to inspire and be inspired, and in this unique and eclectic art form, we hope that our challenges might provide an opportunity to see the streets around you in new ways, to take photos from perspectives you are not used to, to perhaps also support one another in developing confidence (one of the challenges of street photography that is often expressed by those newer to the field), and that we can come together from around the world to share our passion.

For curating the first four photos, we chose from those that were submitted specifically to this challenge and taken within that time period, as well.

In the future, we will choose only photos for the showcase that have been submitted to the specific Flickr ‘StreetWise’ challenge group (flickr)  and that have been labeled and taken within the current challenge timeframe so that we will be showcasing new work inspired by our themes.

Please also join our Facebook forum group for fabulous interactive chats and information here.

“There is a creative fraction of a second when you are taking a picture. Your eye must see a composition or an expression that life itself offers you, and you must know with intuition when to click the camera. That is the moment the photographer is creative. Oop! The Moment! Once you miss it, it is gone forever.” Henri Cartier-Bresson
