Mobile Photography and Art, to me, is about, among other things, interconnectedness of our lives, about what we choose to see and ignore as we move through our own worlds, about the power of small acts of decency. Our shared vision is so vivid and multilayered enabling what we produce to become something more than remarkable. The real joy in this weeks Mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group Showcase, is the relentlessly compelling and extraordinary portrayal of lasting beauty. I have tried to create an atmosphere offering privileged access into multiple spheres of existence, discovering the secret languages of each work of art, conferring dignity and consequence with each image and the artists behind them, who too often pass unseen and unrecorded in our accounts of contemporary life. Enjoy!

This weeks Mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group Showcase is beautifully variegated with each image, slowly dissolving into the next. But this is no means a dillydally, this is sumptuous art that has been carefully created throughout the week. This art is bound by love, my love, “Love is the emblem of eternity; it confounds all notion of time; effaces all memory of a beginning, all fear of an end”, wrote the Swiss author Madame de Staël (1766-1817). Enjoy!

The Big Picture’ is an idiom we use for a number of expressions. As a noun, it may mean the overall scheme of something important, as opposed to the significant details. As an adjective it can be used to describe a scheme, such as ‘these are big picture projections, we’ll sort the details out later”. We also use it informally in conversation, such as one I was having with my eldest son this morning over breakfast, (he’s home from university). He was explaining, rather alarming to me how at a nightclub last night, he narrowly avoided being stabbed because of his ability to ‘see the big picture’ and managed to diffuse the rising tensions among some of the locals and the group he was with. I preferably prefer to examine ‘the big picture’ when considering a photograph of great significance and in this weeks’ flickr group showcase, you will see a vast number of ‘big pictures’. There’s the poetically enigmatic, imbuing the quotidian with luminous alluring images and there’s the more low key, almost conversational style of images in this weeks showcase. Feel the energy and their vibrations, with the subtlest of shifts as one slide dissolves and the next emerges, representing a small gem of close observation and collaboration. Enjoy!

To many artists in this weeks Mobile Photography & Art Showcase, and beyond, mobile art is a coping mechanism. Creating art allows us to live alternative lives, whether for ourselves or for our subjects. This weeks showcase should be recognised as own emblem, forever moving forward whilst simultaneously sensing time’s passage, evidence that is cognizant in our art. Dorothea Lange said it best with “A camera is a tool, for learning how to see without a camera“. This week we share a brilliantly delineated context of imagination whilst recognising among the first avant garde artists of the mobile camera. Enjoy!

Mobile Art and its artists need their audience, this showcase manifests with my welcoming spirit, embodying feelings with a kind of jovial gratitude and there’s a reason for that. “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour, and some style”, Maya Angelou – I couldn’t agree more…

What’s happening now in the mobile art and photography scene, as in so many genres of art right now, is a revolt. It’s been building for sometime, but there’s now more urgency. And with that, artists are implored with a range of apocalyptic anxieties. Change is on the cards, however mindful we are aware of this pictorial elegance, we need to support it with passionate pleas and deft authority. At TheAppWhisperer we have a special relationship with our readers, a shared sense of purpose and a commitment to understand and illuminate our times. The depth of our deep sense of duty and responsibility to our readers is to honour the trust your place in us, we ask you to stand by us, we’re just getting started!

One of the many things I love about curating, producing and publishing our Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase is it offers me the facility to tap into these talented artists lives. Many of the artists that we profile each Sunday morning are extraordinarily prolific with their art and when viewing the showcase, each image doesn’t stand on its own, more so as together, context is all. The more you move among the pictures, shifting back and forrth, the more your sense of mobile photography and art deepens, expanding by the moment. All of these image take their part in a growing narrative, one we continue to explore. Enjoy!

It has been said (‘Teenagers: A Natural History’: David Bainbridge, 2010) that teenage years are to develop the brain and as such they are the greatest achievement of evolution – the point where all that is special about our species comes into play. For parents of teenagers, it’s our job to look after them while they are incubating their extraordinary craniums. “Adolescence is the reason we live so long, long, long,” says Bainbridge. “Human longevity has evolved because we need to bring up our intensely supported, slowly developing offspring.” And that’s of course intensely important, being a parent at this stage is a constant negotiation between keeping them safe and letting them go. It’s about balance as in life as in art. We all need to trust, It’s fierce trust, it demands you put forth your work, without knowing an outcome because fierce trust knows that the outcome does not matter, it cannot matter. Keep sharing your work, each one of you reading this was born to create. Ask yourself, how fierce is your trust in that love? Keep creating, keep viewing, it’s our labour of love.
