Mobile Photography – StreetWise – Welcome and Third Challenge – ‘Minimalism’

Share

“I only know how to approach a place by walking. For what does a street photographer do but walk and watch and wait and talk, and then watch and wait some more, trying to remain confident that the unexpected, the unknown, or the secret heat of the known awaits just around the corner.” Alex Webb

Hello everyone!

The theme of our next challenge is ‘Minimalism’ and will run until June 30th, 2016.

We hope you will enjoy this theme and that you may see your street environment in a new way and from a different perspective.

Often this way of capturing the streets entails finding an appropriate background, and then watching and waiting for the unexpected to appear within your frame.

We have included some examples with a reminder that you can be near or far from your subject. The idea is to keep the photo uncluttered and not to use too much app-ing, keeping within the definition of our StreetWise description and intention.

We look so forward to your submissions and remember to put in your title or description ‘StreetWise – Minimalism.’ You can submit up to 4 photos for this challenge.

The link to post your ‘Minimalism’ photos to be considered for the showcase is here.

Mobile Photography / Art Tutorial – iColorama Procedural: Studies of a Brush Tip

We are delighted to publish Jerry Jobe’s latest mobile photography/art video tutorial for our  viewing pleasure. This time Jobe shares with us some really great brush tips in iColorama. Take it away Jerry…

iColorama retails for $2.99/£1.99 and you can download it here

"I created a piece in iColorama the other day that used a variety of techniques. It started simply – just a background and a single dab with a brush tip on a mask. These kinds of works, the ones that use variations on a single theme, are valuable to teach these multiple techniques. So here’s a 10-minute lesson on how I came up with this work, which I entitled “Studies of a Brush Tip”.

Apple Now Offers New Wide-Angle Accessory Lens with Optics by ZEISS

Share

ZEISS and ExoLens have developed a wide-angle accessory lens kit that is available now from Apple. The first lens to be launched from the accessory lens collection is the new ExoLens with ZEISS Mutar 0.6x Asph T* wide-angle lens, which will be available in Apple stores and on apple.com starting 14 June 2016 and will retail at $199,95 US Dollar. In collaboration with its strategic partner ExoLens, ZEISS has developed the first aspherical lenses for mobile photographers that will forever raise the standard of mobile photography and videography.

In addition to the wide-angle lens, ZEISS and ExoLens are also planning to launch a tele and a macro-zoom lens this summer. The series of three high-performance lenses (wide-angle, telephoto and macro) is a new breed of mobile photography optics that will allow the massive community of iPhone photographers and videographers to tell a deeper story with gold-standard gear.

“The joint goal of ExoLens and ZEISS is to bring never-before-seen quality and versatility to the rapidly growing market of mobile photographers and videographers,” says John E. Fellowes, Chief Executive Officer of Fellowes Brands, which owns ExoLens. “The collaboration represents a truly pivotal step in the development of accessory lenses for mobile phones.”

“The quality of an image is decisively influenced by the lens and its technical properties,” says Dr. Winfried Scherle, Head of the ZEISS Consumer Optics business group. “The ExoLens with optics by ZEISS series has achieved the best possible technical balance between small size, light weight and high image quality to provide ambitious mobile photographers with top-quality tools to support their creativity.”
