New Projects – Our New Form of Artistic Installation aka ‘The Quilt’ Is Ready!

Share

We’re delighted to inform our readers that the quilt that so many of you contributed to, has now been completed. For those of you not aware of this project, it involved mobile artists contributing one image and each one was then carefully included within a large quilt to be displayed at the next gallery show or even Mobile Arts Festival. There has been a few obstacles along the way and we have overcome each one. This quilt was sewed together and finalised by none other than mobile artist, Lorenka Campos’ mother in law. We all owe her much gratitude. The quilt is now with Lorenka Campos, so if you would like to display it at your next event, please contact her for details.

I have also been reminded and I shouldn’t have needed to be however, “Linda Toki did the whole layout of the quilt and had it printed. She also spent days working on the catalog so I really think she deserves a shout out as the quilt would never have happened without her”. We all need to give huge thanks to Linda M. Toki – join me!!

Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties“, writes Erich Fromm, one of the most prescient thinkers of the 20th century. Love and creativity play a huge part of my life and it is physical. Love of art, the art of loving, irrational, intellectual, obsessive, insightful. Professor Semir Zeki, a neurobiologist at the University College London, proved in a series of pioneering brain-mapping experiments that viewing art triggers a surge of dopamine, the feel-good chemicial, into the orbito-frontal cortex of the brain, resulting in feelings of intense pleasure, the same part of the brain that is excited, when we fall for someone, romantically. For all of us associated with mobile photography and art, we already know this, mobile art is our fix just like illicit drug taking, we feel immediate stimulation and like a drug, our reward centres crave for more. I also believe it is not just the viewers but also the creators of mobile art, that reach for that high too. Love, like creatvity, requires courage, to let ourselves go, as Fromm described above. It’s fierce trust, it demands you put forth your work, without knowing an outcome because fierce trust knows that the outcome does not matter, it cannot matter. Keep sharing your work, each one of you reading this was born to create. Ask yourself, how fierce is your trust in that love? Keep creating, keep viewing, it’s our labour of love.

Thank you to all artists for submitting your works. If you would like your work to be considered for entry into our weekly Mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group, please submit it to our dedicated group, here.

We are building the largest and most comprehensive portfolio of mobile photographers and mobile artists in the world. We will continue to build this and we need your help. If you would like to be included in this comprehensive director, viewed by millions of organisations throughout the world, then please submit a selection of twelve images, either an artist’s statement or description of your work and social media links. Creative arts and rejection go hand in hand, the latter is almost part of the process. It’s not just within the creative arts that we hanker to be accepted, to suceed, to realise our dreams. We all need each other to thrive, it’s the nature of humanity, human beings need one another. A young child experiencing unconditional love will live, will thrive, will prosper, will flourish, grow and bloom. Love is essential to early development but other than early childhood, rejection is hardly physically life-threatning. But it hurts, rejection in any form hurts, because our feelings are deeply intimate.

When we are judged unfairly through untruths, the more upset we become and there are a lot of untruths out there…everyday we make more tears, none of us need more pain… So, for crying out loud, how do we make rejection work for us? How do we stop feeling bad? You must remember that one, or thousands of rejections, personal and/or professional, does not mean that you failed, it means you tried. Keep doing that, try again.

As I have mentioned before, art and health are in-explicity linked – there are obvious health benefits and we have to keep those beneifts in the forefront of our mindsets. You will never forget your first rejection, sometimes that rejection will stay with you, deeply. Rejection can teach you a lot about yourself and those around you. Keep in mind, the dignity of difference, keep in mind, we all feel pain, we all feel fear and most of all, we all feel love. We all have the capacity to make love, let’s focus on that.

This weeks Flickr mobile photograhy and art showcase is bursting with artists’ creations, artists that continue to create, continue to face their fears of rejection; knowing that not only will their work be judged but also the person behind the work.

If you would like your work to be considered for entry into our weekly Mobile Photography and Art flickr group, please submit it to our dedicated group, here. If you would like to view our previous Flickr Group Showcases (please go here).

Mobile Photography / Art New Year Resolutions 2016 From Around The World

Share

New Year Resolutions have a long history, the Babylonians pledged to return borrowed objects and repay their debts at the start of each year, while the Romans kicked off January by making a vow to the god Janus (from whom the month takes its name).

As we have been repeating and updating this featured article now for several years, many artists have looked back and lamented at their broken promises but also as you read, you will see that many rejoice at the acomplishments that they have achieved.

In assessing my goals for the New Year, I don’t list tasks, I analyze the optimal approaches in reaching those goals, breaking them down into steps. I think we need to challenge ourselves – to stretch, purposefully, beyond our comfort zones. I make a plan, which includes a roadmap to consciously pursuing new ideas, and discovering possibilities. Each step forward, into unknown territory, emboldens us.

In 2015, I have watched us all grow, creatively, exponentially, in part because we build on a collective intelligence. Having a context, and a community, helps us know ourselves, better.

I’m excited to think of what you each will bring to this New Year. We have shared great energy, camaraderie, encouragement, information, and imagery. We have connected, mourned each other’s losses, and celebrated our victories, large and small, together.

Many thanks to our international community, to all those who have submitted artwork to TheAppWhisperer project, commented on articles, and spread the word about mobile artistry. Thank you to the extraordinary group of features editors who volunteer their efforts and expertise to make TheAppWhisperer a rich and diverse resource. As always, I am grateful for your friendship and support. You move me.

I would like to thank all the artists who have participated our New Years Resolution project this year. Everyone enjoys reading and learning more about you all and it’s a wonderful opportunity to share and rejoice in all your achievements and of course, to bathe in your glorious art.

Few Days Left to View the Mobile Photography & Art Exhibition at the Seoul Museum of Art

I hope you will recall my mobile photography and art Presentation in Seoul, South Korea in September this year. If not, please take a look here, also please take a look at the Showcase that I presented to the audience, with your art.

The reason I writing this post is that the exhibition is still on display but sadly it ends of the 13th December (I really wish I could have been there for the entire duration).

These are the images, I selected to exhibit, I was only asked for my own but I would not settle for that, I took what I could with me, here they are. Many thanks to Jun Yamaguchi, Sarah Jarrett, Damian De Souza, Janine Graf, Mimi Svanberg, Roger Guetta and Carolyn Hall Young.

Huge thanks to the Seoul Museum of Art and of course to Digifun for inviting and taking care of me so well.
