Simon Norfolk – Wins at 2015 Sony World Photography Awards for Landscape
The Honorary Jury of the world’s largest photography competition today names Simon Norfolk as the 2015 Sony World Photography Awards’ Landscape Photographer of the Year. “Norfolk is an incredible photographer and my husband Kevin, has previously interviewed him and featured his work in The Times”. Norfolk, a landscape photographer who lives and works in Brighton and is represented by INSTITUTE, was selected from over 87,000 entries to the Professional competition for a series called “When I Am Laid In Earth”. In the series the photographer maps with a pyrograph the melting away of the Lewis Glacier on Mt. Kenya. Norfolk had previously been awarded 1st place in the Professional People…

The Guardian – ‘Camera-makers focus on adapting to smartphones’ market surge’
Interesting article by my friend Charles Arthur (Contributing Writer for The Guardian, previously the Guardian’s Technology Editor) this morning. He talks about the demise of camera sales since 2006, starting there of course with film. Arthur discusses the research & development and money that is being poured into smartphone development. He cites my partner (Kevin Carter’s) test results in DXOMark’s testing in October where the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus reached the top of the camera site – see here. Sony Xperia Z2 overview: Revised model takes first place in Mobile rankings – Kevin Carter
Kevin Carter our Head of Technical Hardware as well as the Lead Technical Editor for DxOMark and the British Journal of Photography among others, recently tested Sony’s Xperia Z2 smartphone. DPReview use Kevin’s scientific data in their reviews, as they quote Kevin here, ‘The DxOMark team reports the Xperia Z2 images show “impressive detail preservation outdoors” and “in low light, a lot of detail is still visible, even if a loss of details is noticeable compared to outdoors.” Noise levels are reasonable at all light levels, with small grain size and no chroma noise. Not least the RED Epic Dragon review ‘the first camera to break the 100-point DxOMark sensor score barrier’.
