Mobile Photography – Instagram TAKEOVER with @cawestruck – Carol Wiebe – Day 7 – the story so far…

Share

We are so excited with our latest Instagram TAKEOVER this time with @cawestruck – Carol Wiebe. She is a highly respected and talented artist and has been granted full access to our Instagram account and she has done such a magnificent job. We are very proud of her! Please take a look at her Instagram feed to see what an incredible artist she is.

On Day 7 @cawestruck highlighted the work of talented mobile photographer and artist @theartofmayte and she writes, It is my pleasure to highlight this image by @theartofmayte. The image has a futuristic look, as if an Artificial Intelligence has decorated its “skin” with beautiful designs, and is staring out into the cosmos. @theartofmayte likes to experiment with a wide range of images, from the natural world (trees, flowers, animals), to manmade objects (especially architecture) but her major focus is faces. Whatever her subject matter, this artist loves saturated color, dramatic lighting and a touch of the surreal”.

Later on Day 7 @cawestruck felt compelled to highlight @theartofmayte’s latest work and it’s not surprising, this is what she writes I am jumping right back in with another work by @theartofmayte. This image just came throught the Instagram feed and it is another example of Mayte’s photo mastery. She takes facial liberties, as artists are wont to do, but it is unmistakingly face with all kinds of textural and design details to find pleasure in as you study it”

A little later on Day 7 @cawestruck highlighted @marietteschrijver’s – Mariëtte Schrijver’s  very fine work and she writes “It is my pleasure to highlight “A horse is a horse, of course“ by @marietteschrijver. How could I not choose this image with its oh so clever distortion, done to such perfection? That hump in the neck is just wrong, and its face has the look of bone, and the mane is weirdly crimped but . . . . you still know it’s a horse. The question is, would you still want to ride it?”.

As if things couldn’t get better on Day 7, then @cawestruck highlighted @harkinjoyce’s – Joyce Harkin’s fabulous mobile art and she writes “It is my pleasure to highlight this image by Joyce Harkin, aka @harkinjoyce. Joyce is a prolific digital artist who says she needs assistance to help her STOP making digital art. At the risk of sounding hard hearted, I am hoping her pleas go unheeded because we would miss out on images like this one. I love the bold colors, and the suggestion of a figure, with its missing neck. Perhaps this woman is too much in her head: the connection to her body is unnecessary. The brilliant red architecture behind the figure forms a dramatic backdrop with its hard lines and smooth surfaces, except for that scribble, which makes you try to read it for clues as to what is going on here. All in all, the image suggests an intriguing story”.

And then @cawestruck discovered the mystical and hugely talented world of @liliaschwitter  – Liliana Schwitter and she writes “It is my pleasure to highlight “into the Light” by @lilaschwitter. Such arresting editing has gone into this image. You know there is a couple, and you think that may be fear in the gentleman’s eyes, or perhaps just concern, but you really do not know why the woman appears to be falling over. Is she sick, about to faint, laughing so that she can hardly stand up? In any case, we see multiple versions of hands, as if propping up is definitely needed and from various vantage points. Oh, and there are very many buttons on the woman’s torso. Perhaps her partner has been pushing a lot of them? Nor are we clear about the surroundings. All we know is the direction in which this couple is headed, straight for us, and we want to help, or at least hear the story that is playing out. But if the look on his face is any indication, we will not be trusted with that story unless they do not have a mobile device at hand and he needs to make a call, quickly. Luckily, ours is charged and ready”.

Thank you so much dear Carol, it is our privilege to see #theappwhisperer through your eyes, it’s so good.

Like all of these artists, please continue to tag your images on Instagram with #theappwhisperer in the hope to being selected and featured!

Mobile Photography – TrueView Interview – ‘The Pregnant Moment’ with Liliana Schwitter from Switzerland

Share

Our TrueView Interview section is an area where we ask one singular question, to mobile photographers and artists and it is captured to video. This time, I have asked mobile artists to consider their work within a story telling/narrative framework. My thoughts behind this, include an 18th century thesis, ‘Laocoon: An Essay on the Limits of Painting and Poetry‘, Gotthold Lessing argued that although painting could not communicate narrative in the sense of telling a story, it could imply drama by aspiring to capture the “pregnant moment”. In photography, this idea thrives as the “decisive moment” first introduced by Henri Cartier-Bresson and his followers. Therefore, my question to a mobile artist we hugely admire, Liliana Schwitter from Switzerland [with the above in mind], is “how you build your image to express or allude to some sort of story. Do you plot, or not? How do you define it?

Many artists are working on their videos right now and each video is as unique and individual as each artist. We are fully conscious and respectful that you are all capturing a part of yourself and sharing it with us and we love it. Thank you.

Thank you for being a reader and viewer of our wonderful site. If you would like to view our previous TrueView Interviews, please go here.

Only dedicated circles can give birth to something new‘, a quote by a circle of African wise women, capturing an important lesson in life, engagement starts small and requires a team of committed people. This quote is also functional to TheAppWhisperer and Mobile Photography and Art. Each artist featured in this weeks Mobile Photography and Art Showcase is dedicated and emotionally engaged with the present and future of our art. They are also committed to initiating and implementing all the changes we need to bring about, to move forward. We as a group are willing to respect each other and each others work. TheAppWhisperer is a holding space, for the future of mobile photogrpahy and art, an emotional home for our joint iniative. If you pay attention to somebody, or something, that’s an expression of love. Only when you love, can you do that. Implementing freedom of your own thoughts, is genuine freedom, when you get there, it can be transformative and healing. Pause, connect, create, this is the secret. Enjoy!

Seduction has its own narrative and this weeks mobile photography and art showcase is arranged accordingly. How far you can go is a question in art, as in life and in mobile art life, there’s no limit.

It’s been said that the art of seduction is rarely seductive but this of course depends on your own view, function before fantasy or vice versa. In England, a psychological study revealed the secret that it’s said history’s greatest seducers have known all along, a sense of humour. Particularly and most likely biased, a British self-deprecating humour apparently.

The most important thing is not to take ourselves too seriously, outlaw pomposity and self importance and cosy up with the real raw seduction of this showcase. Enjoy!

The past only comes back‘, wrote Virginia Woolf in her unfinished memoir, “when the present runs so smoothly that it is like the sliding surface of a deep river. Then one sees through the surface to the depths“. I confess, I am a huge fan of Virginia Woolf, the English writer who is considered to be one of the foremost modernists of the twentieth century and essentially (to me) a pioneer in the use of stream of consciousness as a narrative device. I ‘discovered’ Woolf’s work as a young girl, long before my eldest son attended boarding school, in Lewes, where she died, drowning herself in the River Ouse, not far from her home. Woolf above all was a pioneer for women, she is a reminder to us all that we must follow our creative urges, we must make up for the time lost (essentially in the West), where we are now freed. One of the many things I love about mobile photography and art, is that women are owning it. I am not against male work at all but I love, the freedom it gives to women, and men are adoring us, even more for it. The creative coalescing between all of our work makes for a richer, deeper picture. We speak to each other, through our imagery, We are all part of this powerful show and how it plays on, rejoice!
