Instagram TAKEOVER with Mark Fearnley @mark.fearnley from London – Days 1 – 7 – As He Leaves Us…

Share

I personally asked London based mobile street photographer, Mark Fearnley to take over our Instagram account for seven days because he’s what I would describe as ‘a hardcore street photographer’. Fearnley’s street photography illustrates ideas, his deployment of the art, on the fertile ground he finds in London, represents the vibrant period that street photography is receiving here in Britain today. This body of work demonstrates a purity of vision, as he works in a typically British, understated way. He doesn’t intrude, so much as observe his subjects, operating on a peripheral borderland. His style of street photography is the polar opposite of street photographer Helen Levitt, not least that the majority of Fearnley’s work is black and white as opposed to Levitt’s pioneering colour photography. Nor is it similar to Vivian Maier’s street photography, there’s no glamorous women shopping, there’s no eye contact with his subjects. What there is, is an almost architectural view of street photography, with dynamic diagonal lines, silhouettes. puddle reflections, condensation perspectives through glass doors. Fearnley is a disrupter of street photography with complexity and range throughout his imagery running alongside a narrative. These stories translate into matter and space, they reach out and grab you, once seen, not forgotten. Huge thanks to Mark Fearnley what a week it has been, thank you!

Today, we will announce a new Instagram TakeOver, again with a very talented mobile photographer, stand by for that!

To view the others, please head over to our Instagram account @theappwhisperer.

Instagram TakeOver with Mark Fearnley @mark.fearnley from London, UK

Share

We are extremely proud to announce Mark Fearnley @mark.fearnley from London has accepted our invitation to takeover our Instagram account for the next seven days. Fearnley, started off working as an interior decorative artist, painting grand houses using various paint effects. His love for art went further and he started painting abstract canvases, which in turn led to numerous exhibitions in different galleries around the country. From visiting these galleries and realising that photography uses much the same techniques as art, such as composition and focal point, and with his creative eye, his love for photography was born and this is where you find him today.

As a photographer Fearnley seeks to visualise a scene before it happens, often waiting to capture a moment that will hopefully then become a great photo. He has an addiction for black and white photography but is also just as at home working with colour. As an artist, he enjoys experimenting with blur and abstract photography images, and you’ll be able to browse some in his website’s Portfolio. Mood and atmosphere play a big part in his photos. Another signature of Fearnley’s work is using the human element and negative space to add a narrative dimension: the rest of the storytelling is then left for you to decide for yourself.

Professionally, Fearnley offers fine art street photography workshops in London and everyone is welcome – from amateurs to professionals, mobile phone to DSLR users. Fearnley is inspired by global photographers such as Fan Ho, Januchi Hakoyama, Daido Moriyamo and Trent Park.

Each day, Fearnley will publish three of his own images to our Instagram feed@theappwhisperer and we can’t wait to view them!

Take a look at our Instagram feed, here, to follow all that he publishes!

New Projects – Our New Form of Artistic Installation aka ‘The Quilt’ Is Ready!

Share

We’re delighted to inform our readers that the quilt that so many of you contributed to, has now been completed. For those of you not aware of this project, it involved mobile artists contributing one image and each one was then carefully included within a large quilt to be displayed at the next gallery show or even Mobile Arts Festival. There has been a few obstacles along the way and we have overcome each one. This quilt was sewed together and finalised by none other than mobile artist, Lorenka Campos’ mother in law. We all owe her much gratitude. The quilt is now with Lorenka Campos, so if you would like to display it at your next event, please contact her for details.

I have also been reminded and I shouldn’t have needed to be however, “Linda Toki did the whole layout of the quilt and had it printed. She also spent days working on the catalog so I really think she deserves a shout out as the quilt would never have happened without her”. We all need to give huge thanks to Linda M. Mobile Photography – StreetWise Winter 2017 / 2018 Showcase

Share

“I love the people I photograph. I mean, they’re my friends. I’ve never met most of them or I don’t know them at all, yet through my images I live with them.” Bruce Gilden

Hello Everyone!

Thank you for submitting your images to StreetWise Flickr group for our ‘Winter Showcase.’

We were touched by the soulfulness and warmth of your photos – beautiful winter scenes (whether in tropical or snowy settings) of people (and animals) looking out windows, windows as frames, windows reflecting cityscapes, people in public transportation, carrying umbrellas, lone figures in urban landscapes and photos of people connecting hand in hand, or embracing one another. Even in the often darker, bleaker times of the winter months, when taking street photos can present a challenge, so many of your images captured what it means to be human – our fragility and our connection to one another.

We are inspired by this international group and it is our honor for Ilana and I to curate so many wonderful artists from around the world, and to ultimately, share the showcases with you.

Ilana and I find it very difficult to choose such few images for the showcase from all those that were submitted and we want you to know that we appreciate each and every post!

As a reminder, we choose images for the showcase that are in keeping with our group’s intention and guidelines focusing on key aspects of street photography composition, timing, juxtaposition, catching the decisive moment rather than relying on too much aping or images that are more art oriented or painterly.

If you are a street photographer, please consider joining our growing community. To those new to our community, welcome – it’s great to have you join us!

Please continue to post your images to StreetWise Flickr group for showcase submissions:

https://www.flickr.com/groups/2750883@N25/pool/

Please note that StreetWise Facebook page is NOT for posting photographs but for sharing information/discussions, thank you!

A special thank you to Joanne.

We hope you feel inspired by this showcase and our wonderful group. Until next time, happy shooting everyone!

Many congratulations to the following artists for being featured in our showcase including:

Basak Aytek, Daniel Vondav, Donna Donato, Dina Alfasi, Paula Betlem, Carlein, Kathy Clay, Vanessa Vox, Mark Fearnley, Allyson, Susan Rennie, Armineh Hovanesian, Julia Nathanson, Isabelle Wolter, Marc Zetterblom, Ger van den Elzen,  Michel Dev1, Karen Axelrad, Michael Beresin, Laurence Bouchard, Paul Yan, Ocean Morisset, Christine Mignon, Myrna, Giulia Baita, Nick Kenrick, Luison, JH McB, Dixon Hamby, Valeria Cammareri, and Rene Valencia
