Mobile Photography – Instagram TAKEOVER with @luison – Days 11 – 14

Share

We are so grateful to @luison – lrh arquitecto – Luis – whom we entrusted with our Instagram account for 21 days after he was gracefully handed the baton by @sunflowerof21 – Elaine Taylor. To view all the posts in the series, please go here. Or of course, head over to our @theappwhisperer Instagram account.

On Day 11 @luison highlighted the work of @john_nieto – John Nieto and he writes Cartier-Bresson introduced the concept “Decisive Moment”. Quoting Eric Kim “it is a split second of genius and inspiration that a photographer had to capture a certain moment. This moment is fleeting, meaning that once you miss that half of a second to capture that moment, it is gone forever. You can never recreate the same circumstances in terms of location and people”. The picture I feature today is a perfect example of the decisive moment. Half a second later, that black ribbon would not seem to be coming out of the woman´s eye. Great shot indeed. ~ @luison”.

On Day 12 @luison highlighted the work of @marczetterblom – Marc Zetterblom and he writes Anyone who knows my work knows that I love reflections. I love to see the world in a different way than our eyes usually see it. That’s the reason why I couldn’t help featuring this incredibly beautiful reflection by Marc. It’s really fascinating, I love everything in it. What a beauty!. ~ @luison”

Also on Day 12 @luison highlighted the work of @kallyklick and he writesScrolling down the hashtag #theappwhisperer I came across this pic of a headless commuter, and I didn’t doubt it, I had to feature it. I just love the main character of the image, the headless man, the light in it, and of course, the beautiful tones obtained by using the right combination lens + film of Hisptamatic. Simply wonderful. ~ @luison”

Later on Day 12 @luison highlighted the work of @polym – Marco Lamberto and he writes I started this takeover by featuring a pic by Fabio, the founder of @youmobile, a group of crazy mobile photographers I belong to. I would like to take advantage of these last two days to feature the rest of its members. I personally know two of them. I hope to meet the other two in the future. I shall start by featuring this extraordinary street image by @polylm . Perfect framing, perfect light on the woman’s face. He’s one of the nicest Italians I’ve ever met. Marco is my friend. Coraggio, Marco! ~ @luison”

On Day 13 @luison highlighted the work of @elizarealise – Elisabetta and he writes Another Italian friend and a great mobile photographer is Eli. I like very much the way she edits her images. It’s always a soft edit, with a smooth contrast. Nice and simple images, like the one I’m featuring today. I ~ @luison”

On Day 14 @luison highlighted the work of @italianbrother – Dilshad Corleone and he writes Time to feature the two members of youmobile living in UK, both very talented and extraordinary mobile photographers, and both using #theappwhisperer tag on all their pictures. Starting with this incredible image by Dilshad, one of the best portraits I’ve ever come across ~ @luison”

Later on Day 14 @luison highlighted the work of @sunflowerof21 – Elaine Taylor and he writes “I’d love to finish my takeover by featuring my predecessor in this task, and also member of youmobile, @sunflowerof21 and her alter ego @subflowerof21_365 . Elaine has two handsome sons who are also her best models. I love the way she photographs them, as well as the pictures she takes of flowers. Thank you, Elaine. I would also like to thank Joanne Carter for this wonderful opportunity. Curating the #theappwhisperer tag for the past two weeks has been an incredible experience, as well as a way to learn so much. Thank you, Joanne xx ~ @luison”

So, very sadly for us we have to ask @luison to hand over the baton to our next featured artist. We are going to miss him deeply but we do know that you are all going to be very excited indeed when we tell you who he is handing over the baton to next! Stay tuned!

Please keep tagging your images with #TheAppWhisperer if you would like our new featured artist to find your art and hope to be found and possibly featured.

Mob-Entrepreneurs – New iPhone Photography Book by Sukru Mehmet Omur

Share

We created our Mob-Entrepreneurs section many moons ago, this is a select area and we only choose to champion projects that we truly believe in.  It reflects the work of mobile photographers and artists who are pushing the boundaries of their talent into other areas. These could be workshops, app development, books, exhibitions anything that draws in others to our magical world.

Today, I am very proud to announce the publication of a brand new book about our favourite subject, mobile photography, by accomplished mobile artist, Sukru Mehmet Omur! This book is available in libraries in Turkey and also, I have discovered, at this link here. I was very fortunate because Omur sent me details of this book and he said I wanted to share with you first because it was the new year resolution for you. And you are my guide my guru on this way Thank you so much for all you bring to my artistic life”. What a kind and great man! (If you would like to review our New Year Resolutions from all the artists that participated, please go here).

I have translated the preface of his book from Turkish to English (bear in mind that I am not a native Turkish language speaker, so I’ve cheated and am relying and trusting Google Translate to help me here). This is what it says:

“Use your mobile phone camera, have fun; Enhance your photography, share your artefacts with Instagram and Facebook. Smart phones have changed the rules of the game in the world of photography with their small size, presence at all times and quality of the lens.

They are quick and simple to work with, take beautiful photos, can move photos to other dimensions through applications, and access hundreds of thousands of them through social networks like Facebook, Flickr, Instagram and Tumblr. This book can not help you use your mobile camera more efficiently and take the best pictures of your life with it.

If there are those who want to go further, they will also open the doors of “mobile art” with their applications. The magic is based on the iPhone camera, but the features it deals with are common to all mobile phones. For this reason, those who do not have an iPhone phone can also benefit from this book”.

Many congratulations to you Sukru Mehmet Omur!

Mobile Photography – Helena Christensen Makes ‘Surprise’ Appearance During Huawei P20 Pro Photography Masterclass in London

Share

Despite the rain this morning, iconic supermodel and renowned photographer, Helena Christensen made a ‘surprise’ appearance at a Huawei P20 Pro masterclass on London’s Southbank. Christensen stopped by to treat five lucky competition winners to her photography tips and let them in on some of her techniques for capturing the best images with Huawei’s latest smartphone.

The masterclass was led by fashion and lifestyle photographer and Leica expert, Alex Lambrechts, who showcased how to take the perfect shot with the new Huawei P20 Pro and its revolutionary AI-powered Leica camera. Lambrechts demonstrated a range of the device’s best features including the selfie camera with 3D portrait lighting, the super slow-motion functionality, and the 5 x Hybrid Zoom to capture stunningly detailed shots of London’s architecture and skyline.

I have a Huawei P20 Pro and its advanced camera system, with the world’s first triple-lens Leica camera and 5x hybrid zoom, really does enable the photographer to capture highly detailed images.

Christensen recently partnered with Huawei to launch “See More” – her own collection of intimate gallery portraits, which capture three fascinating subjects. The images showcase the vivid colours and stunning detail of photography delivered through the Huawei P20 Pro.

Take a look at some of the images from the event this morning…

This is the first time anyone, anywhere has achieved a Fellowship in iPhone or Mobile Photography. He is the first Double Fellow of the BIPP in Ireland and one of a very small group of double Fellows worldwide. Recently he was also awarded an honourary fellowship from the BIPP, this is a rare award only 20 of these have been awarded in the 140 year history of the BIPP.

Please take a look at our @TheAppWhisperer Instagram account to follow all the goings on and please also tag your images with #TheAppWhisperer, so that they can be found and potentially featured.

He writes:

“@coeiphoneart Day 11, another surreal image this time by @jules4921Rita Colantonio I like the way the passageway leads to the tree, no leaves on it, is it dead or about to reawaken to a new dawn, the figure moving out of the frame taking a different path to the left. The use of an overlay of clouds gives an ethereal otherworldly feel to the image which is of this world but it is also not this world. The Raven or Crow adds a slightly sinister note. A great image”.

I didn’t know I was even supposed to HAVE issues until I came to America”, a quote from a book I am currently reading – Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. A fearless contemporary construction about immigration, racism, American dreams and love. Adichie has the unique ability to meticulously and deeply humanise language, capturing a familiar plot but making it fresh. I read vast ranges of books, never fixating on a genre. I am the same when studying photography and art. I’m influenced by and interested in artists who break rules about genre. I’m interested in images with multiple levels that repay close inspection, ensuring I go to unexpected places. A coherent image makes me suspicious, I prefer faltering because it’s in those wobbles that I see the chafing and the uneasiness, the sketchiness of thought and vision. When viewing demiurgic imagery, I am intellectually and creatively and sometimes erotically wired. Constructing a book is similar to creating an image, it’s knowing what to include as well as omit. Allowing the viewer space to complete the construction, in their own imagination, constraining the compulsion of the artist to complete. Sculptors address the deletion of material in their own analogous way. Michelangelo: “The more the marble wastes, the more the statue grows”.

Thank you to all artists for submitting your works. If you would like your work to be considered for entry in to our weekly Mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group, please submit it to our dedicated group, here.
