Mobile Photography – Instagram TAKEOVER with @cawestruck – Carol Wiebe – Day 2 – the story so far…

Share

We are so excited with our latest Instagram TAKEOVER this time with @cawestruck – Carol Wiebe. She is a highly respected and talented artist and has been granted full access to our Instagram account and she has done such a magnificent job. We are very proud of her! Please take a look at her Instagram feed to see what an incredible artist she is.

On Day 2 @cawestruck highlighted the work of talented mobile photographer and artist @axelbergk – Axel Bergk and she writes IG takeover by @cawestruck—It is my pleasure to highlight this work by @axelbergk. I love abstract art and Axel Bergk creates stunning digital abstracts on his iPad. His work gives the impression of depth and texture because of multiple layers, all of which have gone through various processes. There is much for the eye to explore, but without the busy-ness that might result from less masterful editing.

Also, on Day 2 @cawestruck also highlighted the work of accomplished mobile photographer and artist @hedgehogstudio – Julie Denning and she writes “IG takeover by @cawestruck—It is my pleasure to highlight photo art by Julie Denning. Julie uses an eclectic range of photos and images to create her work, combining them in such a way that the results look effortless. See more of her charming gallery here @hedgehogstudio”.

Thank you so much dear Carol, it is our privilege to see #theappwhisperer through your eyes, it’s so good.

My Latest Vogue Column Interview Published with Photographer Clara Giaminardi Today!

Share

I am beyond ecstatic, my latest interview has just been published to Vogue and when this happens, I am always thrilled. This time, I interviewed the incredibly talented photographer, Clara Giaminardi, I utterly adore her work.  “Cascading into the world in 1992, Italian visual linguist, Clara Giaminardi’s later emergence into the photographic cosmos represents a deeply personal, complex and largely enduring oeuvre. Consisting notably of visceral, primordial and emotional portraiture that she describes as “creating a mirror to discover the self through the other,” in this conversation with PhotoVogue Columnist, Joanne Carter. Something Different and Very Interesting – ‘Mobile’ Photography with Volvo and Photojournalist Barbara Davidson

Share

This is completely fascinating, at least to me and I like to think that it will be to our readers too. Barbara Davidson is a photojournalist with three Pulitzer Prizes to her name. She was asked by Volvo to test the new on-board Volvo XC60’s camera and sensors. The XC60 is a car that I personally adore, it has proven itself in so many ways and not least with Davidson herself, having survived a horrific car accident in one. With that in mind, she has created an incredible photo story promoting the brand through her art. She utilised the XC60 by composing a series of images, exploring the relationship between cars and humans and it is really unique. This is actually the world’s first photoshoot using a car as a camera and in many ways, typifies the ‘mobile’ element in Mobile Photography. These images were exhibited at Canvas Studios in Shoreditch, London and will be exhibited to other countries throughout this year.

Please take a look at this video, you do not have to be interested in cars, the Volvo brand or anything to do with that, to appreciate the art, statement and photo story that Davidson has created here. I am very proud of her.

New! Mobile Photography – App of the Day – The Photographer’s Ephemeris – Android & iOS

Share

As part of our new section, ‘App of the Day’, we want to ensure that you’re up to speed with the very best photography, art and videography apps, across all platforms. The Google Play store is now bursting with photography apps, that more often than not, are also available on iOS too. Days of fragmentation with the Android system are fading and the hardware is good too. The Photographer’s Ephemeris (TPE) is a brilliant app and one that’s available across iOS and Android platforms. The Photographer’s Ephemeris is a powerful application to help you plan outdoor photography in natural light, especially landscape and urban scenes. It is a map-centric sun and moon calculator: see how the light will fall on the land, day or night, for any location on earth.

It must be pointed out that the Android version of this app is not as rich as the iOS version and this is reflected in the price. However, this app is hugely popular across both platforms and that’s simply because it is an essential tool for anyone who needing access to this information.

Just updated, TPE 4.0 offers a number of new features, making use of the Augmented Reality using ARKit – not to be missed!

$8.99 – iTunes Store (iOS)

$2.99 – Google Play (Android)

Short Film Series & Photo Exhibition Launches Featuring the Work of Five Extraordinary Photographers

Share

A series of five short films followed by a London photo exhibition launches today featuring the work of five photographers overcoming their own personal battles to shoot extraordinary images across a dynamic range of subjects.

  • Ian Treherne is profoundly deaf and almost totally blind. He shoots portraiture that evokes the way he sees the world
  • Jim Mortram’s own recovery from anxiety and depression started when he was gifted a camera. He now trains his lens on others living on the margins of society in his award-winning photo-documentary blog
  • Hannah Laycock uses photographic art to raise awareness of Multiple Sclerosis
  • Giles Duley stepped on an IED while shooting in Afghanistan. Told his photography career was over he was back in war-torn regions within six months documenting the lives of civilians caught up in conflict
  • Daniel Regan relies on his camera to cope with mental health issues and now uses photography and art to help others combat their own conditions

The first film launches online on Monday (16th Oct) with subsequent films released weekly, culminating in a London photography exhibition opening with a private view from 10th November.

The third edition of the hugely popular ZEISS Photography Award is now open for entries. Photographers are asked to submit their best series of 5 – 10 images to the brief: “Seeing Beyond – Untold Stories “.

What’s up for grabs?

– $12k worth of ZEISS lenses

– $3k travel expenses

– Trips to London and Germany

– Exhibited at Somerset House, London

– Worldwide exposure

The ZEISS Photography Award is now in its third year – and is calling on ambitious photographers from across the globe to present their work around the theme “Seeing Beyond – Untold Stories” to the international jury of experts. The focus of the photo series should be on stories that have not yet been told (or have not yet been told to the end). The theme “Untold Stories” can and should be understood in the broadest sense – the works can examine the familiar from a new perspective or cover topics that have not received much attention up until now. The goal is for photographers to push the creative boundaries and surpass themselves photographically.

The ZEISS Photography Award is jointly organized by ZEISS and the World Photography Organisation. Last year, around 4,700 photographers from 132 countries submitted more than 31,000 photos.

Photographers are asked to submit a series of 5 – 10 images, including a description of the images, online. Entries close February 6, 2018.
