App Of The Day – BrushStroke In Association with The National Gallery (and it’s free for the weekend)

Share

I have known about this collaboration for a few weeks and am very excited to reveal it today. Unfortunately there wasn’t time to add TheAppWhisperer into this collaboration, but the National Gallery and the team behind Brushstroke (Code Organa), did try very hard.  To celebrate The Credit Suisse Exhibition: Monet & Architecture, The National Gallery have teamed up with Brushstroke app to offer you a free app download (usually $/£3.99) and a chance to enter their photography competition.

You’re all invited to follow @national_gallery on Instagram and use the Brushstroke app to experiment with filters, and share an image featuring architecture near you, inspired by the exhibition.

‘Monet & Architecture’ is the first ever exhibition looking at Monet’s career through the buildings he painted: in Normandy, in Rouen, in Paris, London, and Venice. From buildings in villages and by the coast, to some of Europe’s most famous monuments, Monet painted the architecture of his time – modern, historic, simple, and grand.

The exhibition brings together over 75 paintings by Monet, and shows how Monet used architecture to create his compositions, both in his most famous paintings and lesser-known works.

Follow @national_gallery on Instagram and share your image with us using the hashtag #MonetBrushstroke, or you can email your entry to ecrm@ng-london.org.uk.

The competition opens on 25 May at 10am BST and closes on 28 May at 11.59pm BST.

One winner will receive a framed print of their winning image with free shipping, courtesy of Brushstroke App and CanvasPop. The winner will also receive a pair of tickets to ‘The Credit Suisse Exhibition: Monet & Architecture’ in London, the exhibition catalogue and a creative goody bag from the National Gallery Company Ltd.

The Brushstroke app is free to download (and it’s rarely free) until midnight on Monday 28 May, when the competition closes.

PolarPro Mobile Filter System

Share

Like many of you, I came to photography back in 35 mm film days. Nights (with others), in a darkroom gave me immense pleasure. The simplicities of mobile photography are extraordinary and you won’t find a bigger advocate of it because of this. That’s not to say that I don’t excited about accessories though now and again and right now, I will say in my typically British understated way, that from what I’ve seen so far, the Iris – Mobile Filter System by PolarPro and expansion pack, looks quite ingenious.

Compatible with iPhone X, iPhone 7/ Plus, iPhone 6/7/8 and Pixel 2/2XL mobile devices, the Iris Mobile Filter System includes ND8, ND16 and ND32 filters for reducing shutter speed in various lighting conditions. I have not (yet) seen these products physically, but what I have seen by way of their website and the YouTube video (below), they look good.

Go here to find out more and I’ll report new findings when I have further information.

An email from an Artist…

Share

A few days ago I received the following email in my inbox and it filled me with much joy. I asked the artist if I may share it with you all because it’s good, positive news and hopefully will add further motivation to our much loved cause.

The email was from Rebecca Bruyn a mobile artist of much talent. This is what she said:

“Hi Joanne

I just wanted to share with you how much I appreciate your vision, and your commitment, your joy in sharing your educational resources and supporting our continued exploration of this unusual medium.

You’ve inspired me so much so that I am now teaching intro classes to small local groups in a variety of settings on Cape Cod.

This particular setting is in Chatham overlooking the ocean, a gorgeous place to hopefully inspire new artists!

I make share the students know about TheAppWhisperer before they leave. And share that great 9 minute video you presented at the 2015 Photography conference in England that garnered tremendous interest.

I feel very blessed.

Thank you

Rebecca”

Two new art suites of ice and snow are now being created in the year-round open ICEHOTEL, Sweden

Share

On December 15, the seasonal part of ICEHOTEL in Swedish Lapland opened. Thousands of overnight guests and day visitors and around 50 weddings later it is time for the seasonal suites to return to its source in Torne River. The year-round part of ICEHOTEL is still standing, and right now, two art suites of ice and snow are being created.

It’s dripping from the roof in the seasonal part of ICEHOTEL. The 35 rooms, hand-chiseled from ice and snow and the 80-meter long Main Hall and Ceremony Hall is now melting back into its source.

– This winter weather has been something extra. Sub-zero degrees from October until Easter and then switched to mild temperatures both days and nights. The quick changes in weather have kick-started the melting process and ICEHOTEL #28 is now melting back into Torne River, says Arne Bergh who is Creative Director at ICEHOTEL and has been following the ice art transforming into water again.

Mobile Photography – App of the Day Recrop (previously known as AntiCrop) by TouchRetouch Developers ADVA Soft

Share

We are delighted today to annouce our App of the Day Recrop. This is an updated app, which was previously known as AntiCrop) by the developers of the uber popular TouchRetouch app, ADVA Soft. ReCrop has become more composition orientated as opposed to AntiCrop. It gives the operator a second chance to reframe your original shots, post capturing – allowing you to crop, uncrop and straighten.

The update, is not just all that though, there’s also a newly improved algorithm, meaning this app is now even better at filling in the expanded areas based on the content surrounding it and works best with uniform backgrounds. Straightening is lossless, just as it was in the previous version.

In addition to that, you can flip and rotate photos, move the frame strictly along the axes, if needed and choose from multiple saving and sharing options.

There are also embedded inapp tutorials too in the dramatically redesigned interface, to help you further.

We have embedded a tutorial video within this post, for you to further understand what we have written here, see below.

And of course, you know our generousity knows no bounds to our dear readers, so we’re going to offer you a chance to receive a promotional code for this app. Firstly, you will need to post a comment, in the comments section of this post, on our website – not on our vast social media channels, we need them at TheAppWhisperer.com – so we can extract your email address in order to organise the giveaway. If you’re stuck on what to write in the comment section, perhaps you’d like to give us some feedback, tell us how we’re doing, what you’d like to see and hopefully you’ll be selected a promotiional code for Recrop will find it’s way into your email Inbox. The other thing we would like you to do, if you don’t mind, is follow us on Twitter (that way you won’t miss anything in the future. All winners are selected at random, good luck!

If you’re too excited to wait to find out if you’re a winner of our app giveaway, you can head over to the app store right now, Recrop is there and waiting for you. It retails at $1.99, click here to go there.
