Mobile Photography / Art – Saturday Poetry – She Walks in Beauty by Lord Byron (George Gordon) – Including @24hourproject

Share

In honour of the @24hourproject, a street photography project designed to document streets of the world over a 24 hour period, created by Renzo Grande @aliveinnyc and Sam Smotherman @whittiersam, we have decided to feature a wonderful poem by Lord Byron the most flamboyant, notorious and fashionable of the major Romantic poets of the day.  The poem is entitled ‘She Walks in Beauty’ and I really feel it epitomises the essence of the @24hourproject.

To tell you a little more about the @24hourproject, essentially it began as a personal project to document two different cities for one full day. That same year, other photographers became interested in covering it too and in 2012 the first year, 65 photographers documented 24 cities. The figures gradually increased and this year there are 2,702 photographers, documenting 680 cities. The idea is for each photographer to publish one photograph per hour over a 24 hour period. The project went live on March 19, 2016, it is the same day for all participants, starting at midnight their local time.

Many mobile street photographers that we know and love are covering this event, including Vivi Hanson Sacerdote (London), Laura Peischl (London), Lee Atwell (Seattle, USA), Sheldon Serkin (New York, USA), Cindy Buske (Quebec, Canada), Saskia Howard (King Cross, Sydney, Australia), Ryan Vaarsi (USA), Rob Pearson-Wright (London, UK), Lrh Arquitecto – Luis Rodriguez (Seville, Spain), Paula Broom (Kings Cross, Sydney, Australia)- please let me know of more!

We have published some of the incredible images emerging from the @24hourproject below, as well as this beautiful poem.

To view our other Saturday Poetry articles that we have published, go here. To ensure your image receives our attention, please upload it to Instagram with this hashtag – #theappwhisperer

Vivi Hanson Sacerdote Joins TheAppWhisperer as co-editor of StreetWise

Share

We are delighted to welcome Vivi Hanson Sacerdote as a new co-editor to TheAppWhisperer StreetWise Column.  We have long been admirers of her photography and she has contributed in so many ways over the past few years. Not least with her supporting role at The Photography Show in Birmingham earlier this year. Vivi is a committed and loyal believer in TheAppWhisperer and it’s with huge pleasure that we announce her new position with us today.

Vivi will work alongside our Sheldon Serkin, they will both co-edit StreetWise.  Serkin also has a rich history of mobile street photography and has been photographing New York City since 2010 in this way.

StreetWise is a dedicated column for mobile street photography and art. It differs from our StreetsAhead column as that is a Women’s movement. StreetWise is multi gender. Like our other groups, we also have a Facebook group dedicated to StreetWise, this provides a platform for discussion on the techniques, aesthetics, and goals that all mobile photographers bring to this art form, link.

We have a special Flickr Group for StreetWise, where we would like you to submit your images for curation in showcases, link.

TheAppWhisperer is growing at a phenomenal rate and trying to include as much unique content and variety from the mobile photography world as our readers can possibly digest, you really don’t need to go anywhere else!

Please join us in welcoming Vivi to TheAppWhisperer family, welcome Vivi!

Joanne Carter Lecture on Mobile Imagery at DigiFun Art Festival 2015 – Seoul Museum of Art – Part 5

Share

I hope you’re all following the posts relating to my lecture at the Seoul Museum of Art, South Korea on 23 September 2015.  If you have missed any, please go here. It was a huge honour for me to be invited by DigiFun Art to participate in the DigiFun Art: Urban Scape Mobile Photography & Art Exhibition and Festival at this most prestigious museum.

I divided my two hour+ lecture into sections and I will now run through my fifth group of slides/my notes that I made in Part 5. In this section, as I knew that image collusions are very popular in the Far East, I wanted to explain our wonderful section Artistic Anarchy: Mobile Collusions Column, edited by Jaime Glasser. I created a video of images selected by Glasser to show the audience and have published that below.  Congratulations to the following artists for being featured:  Kerryn Benbow, Karina Wollina, Mark Schnidman, Sonja Kautzman, Carolyn Hall Young, Edith Meier, Julio Pelaez, Becka Schiller, Laboridomi Latorre, Fiona Christian, Anthony Ozorai, Manuela Ballasadero, Sukru Mehmet Omur, Elaine Taylor, Christina Rankin, Cecily Batey Caceu, Andrew Lucchesi, Kim Martino Diaz, Garry Ryon, Marguerite Koury, Michelle Mott, Dieter Gabel, Chad Rankin, Gretchen Bickert, Aldo  Pacheco, Claude Labarussiat, Jo Sullivan, Riva Ax Riise, Jane Fiala, Vivi Hanson Sacerdote, Lisa Peters, Benamon Tame, Tina Rice, Barbara Nebel, Violet Martins, Kate Zari Roberts, Pam Blackstone, David Hayes, Diana Nicholette Jeon, Allyson Marie, Isabella Matthews, Armineh Hovanesian.

Please note, that these are my notes to prompt not only myselfW but also my really  wonderful English/Korean translator Carol Seungjoo Park – I expanded upon these points within my lecture.
