Kids Paint Plus 2.0

The application has been specially developed for children, providing an easy to use interface that teaches them about shapes while offering a finger painting experience without the paint. The 2.0 version allows for simultaneous multiple finger use and lets parents save their child’s creations to a photo library.

Rengi Rengi created and developed Kids Paint Plus as especially easy to use for youngsters. The app offers toggle button shape changes, which means that little ones merely have to keep tapping a button to find the shape they want to use for their picture. They can take a circle and turn it into a sun with the addition of color, transform a triangle into a tree and so on.

The Kids Paint Plus app features multiple pages, some which already have drawings on them that kids can color. The remaining pages are there for little ones to create masterpieces from scratch. The color is applied to the pictures in much the same way as finger painting. Children can use any or all of their fingers simultaneously to add colors of their choosing to any part of their creation. The shape button shows the current selection and changes when a child switches colors. Parents are able to save their children’s work to a photo library, which is great for showing off to friends and family, or as a keepsake memento.

These are some of the fun features that children get in Kids Paint Plus:
* Multiple pages available
* Kids can color existing drawings or make their own
* Multiple shapes available at the tap of a button
* Multiple finger drawing and coloring
* Shape button changes color to match color selected
* Designed as easy to use for kids
* Teaches children about various shapes
* Export finished creations to a photo library

Children love using Kids Paint Plus because creating is very natural to them. Parents have an additional reason for appreciating this application and that’s the fact that it is a teaching tool that just feels like fun to their kids.

Gardener’s Buddy 1.0

Oakville Stamping & Bending, Ltd. has released Gardener’s Buddy 1.0, their plant mapping and recording app for iPad. Starting with a user created sketch or map which is uploaded into the iPad, the app allows the gardener to create graphical overlays indicating plant types, locations and complete annotated details. The app generates and saves 25 maps, and the gardener uses one per month to record new plantings. There are seven layers with icons denoting: trees, bushes, bulbs, perennials, annuals, herbs, and vegetables.

When first starting to use Gardener’s Buddy, the user must create a sketch or map of their garden, save it as a JPEG, and then use the File Sharing function in iTunes to upload it into the app. With the base layer in place, 25 monthly maps are generated and saved, each with seven planting layers for use on top of the base. New plantings may be added as many times per month as desired, and all records can be emailed or synced with a computer database at any time. The app is always up to date, automatically creating a new map each month and deleting the oldest record. If a map sketch is not available, uploading a blank JPEG will result in a book type garden diary.

Gardener’s Buddy launches in portrait mode to display a scrolling list of months, starting with the coming month and going back an additional 24. An icon view of the base layer accompanies each listing, along with month and year, and whether any garden data has been recorded. The app can accommodate multiple users by tapping a green Change User button on the top right. Tapping on any month brings up the base layer of the garden map, plus any of seven different colored icon layers indicating the kinds of plants added that month (trees, bushes, bulbs, perennials, annuals, herbs, and vegetables) and their location.

Magnetic Alphabet 1.0

Dot Next has released Magnetic Alphabet 1.0, the iPad edition of the classic magnetic board game. The development of the application comes from our experience with children: we all have children or grandchildren between 3 and 10 and we noticed that their best games are the simple and immediate ones.

Sophisticated games leave little to their imagination, while the old magnetic board with a handful of colored letters allows them to free their imagination. Transforming this experience into a game for iPad was natural: magnetic alphabet contains 95 different pieces in 6 colors, for a total of 570 magnets to be placed freely on the board: a real stimulus for imagination and creativity of our children, without the stress of having to learn features and rules typical of more complex games.

The magnetic alphabet is suitable for children of all ages, both those who already write and those who have yet to learn the alphabet. Knowing the alphabet and numbers in preschool age helps children deal with school more certainty: this game is the ideal tool to start to become familiar with letters and numbers in the lightest and most enjoyable way.

For children who have already started the school it is a great way to combine playing and learning, thus making it more pleasant. It is a good opportunity to play with our children teaching them something: maybe this is the most important thing! It is also a great diversion for those times when kids get bored as long trips, restaurant dinners, parties with friends: unavoidable situations that are easily solved with the magnetic alphabet.

Parcours.robo 1.1

Impara GmbH has released Parcours.robo 1.1, an update to their industrial robot obstacle course game for iOS moved into the iTunes New and Notable section placing it 83rd in total iPad app sales, and 23rd in the Games category of the iTunes USA App Store. In Europe where acceptance was even stronger it ranked as the #1 Game in the puzzle and strategy categories in France.

The game challenges the player to program his robot to cross the factory floor and reach the exit. Player created stacks of 5 punch cards, which provide stepwise control of turning and movement, are executed each round. Robots must move around walls, negotiate conveyor belts, ride rotating floor discs, and avoid lasers and crushers to reach the exit. The number of cards, amount of energy, and the elapsed time determine the score. The game’s graphics are optimized for all iOS devices, including iPhone 4’s Retina display. The updated version adds iPhone/iPod/iPad single player gameplay, plus the previously supported 2-player mode when running on the iPad.

Parcours.robo 1.1 combines aspects of both point-of-view labyrinth games and chess. Each round the player must plan the shortest path to the exit, and then compile 5 cards to move his robot, one instruction at a time, toward the Exit. Cards include: forward, forward 2x, backward, rotate 90 degrees left, rotate 90 degrees right, rotate 180 degrees, and no operation (no movement or rotation). Each instruction consumes .5, 1.0, 1.5, or 2.0 units of battery power, depending on the amount of activity involved. Resembling labyrinth games, each turn the player must assume a robot’s eye view to assemble 5 instructions through often challenging mazes and obstacles. And Parcours.robo is chess-like in that following each individual move or instruction, the dynamic elements of the game may have a move in response. If a robot moves on to a conveyor belt, the player must calculate the game’s counter-move as the belt alters the robot’s position.
