Pubblog, the makers of MailSteward and FileMyFiles, has announced the release of DiskRefresher, the essential utility for refreshing the data on your external disk drives. DiskRefresher is now available on the Mac App Store.

Hard disk drives are designed to be used regularly, not stored on a shelf for months or years. The magnetic strength of the digital bits recorded on a drive slowly decays when that drive is disconnected from a computer. After many months, this effect can cause data files to fade, sometimes becoming unreadable.

Manufacturers include firmware in their drive mechanisms that counteracts this inevitable bit decay. Every time a bit is accessed, the drive ‘refreshes’ its magnetic imprint on the disk. When a drive is active and connected for an extended time, this refresh cycle runs automatically. But when a drive that has long been powered down is briefly reactivated – to copy a file or run a simple integrity scan, for instance – most bits remain unread and unrefreshed.

DiskRefresher makes the time-consuming process of refreshing multiple, external disk drives simple and safe.

Jolly Rover

The swashbuckling sausage-dog star is Gaius James Rover, son of the famous clown Jolly Rover, who died from a blow to the groin from an improperly loaded joke cannon.

Following the tragically comedic death of his father, young Gaius goes to live with his uncle, a wealthy plantation owner on a small Caribbean island. While his uncle is away, a large contract for the potent and addictive Jolly Rover arrives from Guy DeSilver, Governor of the notorious Groggy Island, with payment upfront!

In a blinding flurry of optimism, Gaius pools his meagre savings with this advance and charters a ship and crew to take him to Groggy Island. Along the way he meets a colourful band of seafaring cutthroats, scallywags and rogues otherwise known as pirates.
