Amazon Kindle For Mac App Store Now Available – How To Use It

Well it didn’t take Amazon long to get their Kindle app launched on the Apple Mac App Store. It is free to download and currently enjoys second place in the US Mac App Store Charts. Using it is straight forward, follow the steps below to maximize your pleasure with this app…

Firstly, head to the Mac Store and click on the Kindle app to install it. Just before the install window you can read up on some further information regarding the Kindle app. It explains there are over 775,000 books in the Kindle store, including best sellers and new releases. Amazon Whispersync automatically syncs with your last page read, bookmarks, notes etc, even from another device, this is a very useful feature.

Welcome Screen

Once installed you will see the following screen and from here you can download previously archived books that you already own, or go directly to the Kindle Store to download new books.

Onwards To The Store

Once you are at the store, just click on a book to download/purchase it. On the Buy now with 1-Click section, you can choose to have the book delivered to whatever devices you currently have registered. In this instance you should select Kindle for Mac.

Delivered

From the purchase menu you will see the book delivered directly to your Kindle for Mac home screen.

Reading

To open the book, simply double-click on it. To change the font size, words per line, brightness and color mode just click on Aa. Also, if you prefer to read the book in full screen mode on your mac – this is great for a MacBook Air or similar, just select the Full Screen Mode icon at the top of the screen and it will change the format.

Highlight

To highlight any word within the text, just select the word for your mouse and the Highlight menu appears. Click on Highlight and the word will be highlighted for you in yellow.

Audio

Many customers of the Kindle Amazon store actually specifically like using the audio facility that comes with this app. Unfortunately, it does not appear to be available with this facility in the Mac App Store. Hopefully this will be added in a future update.
