Mobile Movies Showcase – Week 8 – By Donna Donato
Welcome back to the eighth article in our fabulous new Column, Mobile Movies. We at TheAppWhisperer have been inspired by the Flickr upgrade of 1 Terabyte of storage for everyone and have been wanting to launch a mobile movie section for some time. Now seems to be perfect, the new Flickr upgrade will allow for a full 3 minutes of 1080p HD quality video per single film and you can have as many as you have storage space for. Each week I (you can find me on Flickr here) will curate the movie uploads to our new Flickr group – MobileMoviesTheAppWhisperer – I will view all the videos uploaded and comment on the chosen ones.
”The internet has created other crossroads for films and videos. Mobile devices have democratized not only photography but also video-making. The availability of apps that give digital video the appearance of analogy film, such as grainy black and white super-8, is exciting and important. Now anyone with the desire can make a home movie or ‘film’ and upload it to the web. It is interesting to see what stories and messages people are creating and disseminating.’
All of the entries were either shot or created on mobile devices.
Here is TheAppWhisperer’s video showcase for August 24, 2013. We would like to thank this week’s contributors: RAV Photography _Roger Vannausdle, Poetic Medium, PegPrice and SLP for their submissions. Take a look at these latest gems; you’ll be glad you did. Please share our Column with your family and friends, encouraging them to create and submit their mobile videos. We are seeking all platforms, Windows, Android, iOS… Joanne Carter and I will also be scouring the web in search of mobiles movies to present to our readers.

’trim.LoFlyP’ – RAV Photography_Roger Vannausdle
Colorado Trip 2013 was a fast paced, tag along on a summer vacation. No lounging or relaxing by the pool for this family!
They had an action packed adventure and you’ll vicariously experience it too! I enjoyed the twangy Kid Rock song that moved the images along.
‘[FEE.__d]’ – Poetic Medium
Poetic Medium is back with another film of seemingly ordinary images and sound. The combination of these ‘mundane’ elements creates a rather Hitchcockian world. I also liked the occasional ‘stuttering’ or shakiness of the image.
‘Land of Enchantment’ – PegPrice
PegPrice shared what she called a ‘slideshow’ of a recent trip to New Mexico. I haven’t traveled extensively in the southwest so enjoyed watching this montage. The big sky, wide-open, seemingly unending spaces and sometimes-otherworldly terrain re-enforced the notion that this area is the land of enchantment.
‘a sec in anothers mocs’ – SLP
Lately the saying about walking a mile in someone else’s shoes has been ‘playing’ in my head. I had to smile when I saw SLP’s silent montage. In a fraction of a moment the viewer regards the feet / shoes of others. I particularly liked the closing image.
“Lessons on Flight’ – SLP
Another short, silent montage from SLP. She shows that flight isn’t limited to soaring in the air. I noticed SLP commented on her iPad’s lack of storage space to accommodate both music and photos. I hope she is able to solve the space issue because I’ll be interested to see how she incorporates audio into her pieces.
