Mobile Art – APPart – Second Flickr Group Showcase – TheAppWhisperer

Welcome to the second edition of our APPart Showcase section. Every two weeks I as APPart Editor for TheAppWhisperer.com will review and curate work that was submitted to our APPart Flickr Group.

In addition to curating a showcase video that Joanne has created and featured a sampling of submitted work, I have also highlighted a few images that caught our attention… offering some thoughtful commentary about technique, composition, and subject matter.

If you are not a member of our Facebook group… we highly recommend that you join us!  This is our space for sharing newsworthy information and conducting discussions (what, when, where, why and how) about art and mobile art in general.

Congratulations to this week’s featured APPartists: Meri Walker, Roger Guetta, Dieter Gaebel,  Montse Abad, Giulia Baita, Fireandrain,  Jasonol0gy, Poetic Medium, Vanessa Vox, Pamela Viola, Kim Martino, Gizem Karayavuz,, Louise Whiting, Vivi Hanson Sacerdote, Cat Morris, Mariette Schrijver, Sarah Jarrett, Carolyn Hall Young, lila_lile, and Jim Purdue.

We hope you enjoy this week’s showcase and many congratulations to the following artists for being featured this week including:

Giulia Baita / Title: Lunch at the Sea

Edward Hopper’s “Nighthawks” comes to mind when viewing this wonderful piece.  The intense contrast of the bright, sunlit beach and the dark, minimal interior lighting in the restaurant create strong geographic shapes that are further contrasted by the brilliant use of complimentary colors. As with Hopper’s work, the mood is quiet, and the human interactions are minimal, just a slice of ordinary life brilliantly captured and preserved.

Cat Morris / Title: As head of the “Welcome Wagon” Elliot felt outnumbered as the new neighbors moved in.

Cat’s style is always prevalent regardless of her subject matter. This piece depicts a variety of expressive, carefully drawn, Audubon-styled birds. It’s created in a linear fashion with hard edges and a saturated palette that feels almost real, but is more playful and fun.  There is so much going on that you can spend a tremendous amount of time in this scene and continuously find something new to explore.

Roger Guetta / Midnight at the Oasis

This image fools you and requires exploration you will enjoy. Dark and mysterious, this figure is “clothed” only by what appears to be tropical flora. A second glance highlights a disproportionate scale between the background and the figure. It’s then that you realize that her brightly lit hand is actually resting upon a wall revealing that the only three dimensional part of this image is the figure, everything else is illusion.
