Halide Mark III and Why Photographers Still Need to Make Decisions

2026-05-29 / Comments Off on Halide Mark III and Why Photographers Still Need to Make Decisions

I’ve been writing about mobile photography for almost two decades, and if I’m honest, I thought I’d seen most of it by now. Every year brings another camera app promising to turn the iPhone into something it isn’t. There are always more controls, more presets, more editing tools, and increasingly, more artificial intelligence. And Halide Mark III made me pause for a different reason. It wasn’t the new editing tools or the collection of Looks that caught my attention. It wasn’t even the promise of producing better photographs. iPhone 14 Pro Camera Preview: The Hardware Changes via Halide

    2022-09-15 / 1 Comment

I was thrilled to review iPhone App developer Sebastiaan de With of Halide App’s camera preview on the brand new Apple iPhone 14 Pro camera.  We mentioned Hailide Mark II in our Best Mobile Photography Apps (2026 Edition) “The Wide camera sees the greatest changes“, he reports. “The lens gets a bit wider, a 2mm focal length difference. The aperture is smaller (‘slower’), means the lens collects less light. This was probably necessary to work with a larger sensor. We calculate that the Wide camera is able to collect 20% more light compared to last year’s camera, even with this slightly worse aperture, thanks to its larger size. We’re astonished…

Mobile Photography – Halide Camera App Updated for iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro

2019-10-01 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography – Halide Camera App Updated for iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro

Halide have developed an update to their popular mobile photography app specifically for the new Apple iPhone 11 and iPhone Pro. The latest update includes a tactile lens switcher, allowing for a fast and intuitive way to switch between the Wide, Ultra Wide and Telephoto lenses on the iPhone Pro. What makes this switcher really unique is that once you’re familiar with the menu, you can press-and-flick from the lens button to quickly change lenses. This is a fast, natural way to switch lenses.

Brand New Mobile Photography App – Spectre – Announced by the developers of Halide Camera

2019-02-28 / Comments Off on Brand New Mobile Photography App – Spectre – Announced by the developers of Halide Camera

Rumoured for some time, but now Spectre is available in the App Store. Spectre is an AI-powered shutter for your iPhone, allowing the user to create interesting long exposures. The long exposures are live in the moment.  Spectre saves the entire exposure process as a Live Photo, allowing the user to re-play the exposure as it happened. We hope to learn more about Spectre in the coming days as we put it through our processes. In the meantime, you can download it here.

New! Mobile Photography – App of The Day – Halide – RAW Manual Camera

2017-10-19 / Comments Off on New! Mobile Photography – App of The Day – Halide – RAW Manual Camera

Halide is described in its developers literature as ‘a groundbreaking camera app for deliberate and thoughtful photography‘. This could well be true, if nothing else, it is a premium camera app for your phone and worthy of your attention. The app is developed by Ben Sandofsky and Sebastiaan de With. Sandofsky is a former tech lead on Twitter for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Sebastiaan de With is a former designer for Apple. The developers have just updated Halide to fully support iOS 11 and it offers more features than ever before. If you’ve been searching for a elegant gesture based camera alternative app, Halide might just fit your requirements. It…

Best Camera Apps for Street Photography (2026): The Complete Guide

    2026-07-15 / 0 Comments

The Best Camera Apps for Street Photography (2026): The Complete Guide to Photographing the Decisive Moment There is a peculiar irony at the heart of contemporary street photography. Never before have so many people carried cameras capable of producing extraordinary photographs, yet never before has it become so difficult to make images that feel genuinely observed rather than merely processed. Smartphones now perform astonishing feats of computational wizardry, blending exposures, removing unwanted objects, sharpening details that scarcely existed in the original scene and brightening shadows until every alleyway resembles a studio. The results are often technically impressive, but technical perfection has never been the ambition of street photography. If anything,…
