On a good day’s shoot it is not uncommon to shoot thousands of frames spanning multiple memory cards. Downloading these cards normally is very cumbersome as each card has to be downloaded one at a time, even if you have multiple card readers. Moreover, it takes considerable time to go through all these images and do a “first pass” edit (rate, delete, view at 100%, etc.).
