iPhone 4 Goes AWOL Out Of A U.S Air Force Aircraft

TUAW are reporting that they received an email from U.S. Air Force Combat Controller, Ron Walker describing how his iPhone 4 went AWOL last week, at 1,000 ft and survived. This is what happened…

Whilst leaning out from the aircraft while on duty last week, the velcro seal on one of Walker’s uniform pockets opened and with that his iPhone 4 flew out without even a second glance but without a parachute to soften the fall.

Fortunately, the Find My iPhone app had been installed on this iPhone and with the help of his fellow airmen Walker was able to locate the absconding iPhone 4. The amazing thing was it needed no medical attention, it was completely undamaged by the fall. The only suit it had on was a Griffin case and no additional body armor.

So, there you go, you may of seen and heard of plenty of iPhone glass smashes in the past but it just goes to show with the right type of fall the iPhone 4 can survive and might even make quite a useful guided bomb in the future.
