Mobile Photography – First Impressions Review of Ztylus Revolver Lite Kit for iPhone 7 Plus

Ztylus Innovation are an interesting self-funded company, their products initially originating from a working garage driven by a small team with the philosophy to create unique products from the ground up. In December of 2016, they co-launched the world’s first dual optics solution for the iPhone 7 Plus with another company called Kamerar. This product was called the Kamerar ZOOM Lens Kit. Ztylus Innovation developed the optics for their kit and Kamerar developed the case. The Revolver Lite for the iPhone 7 Plus is one of our follow up developments for dual lens optics. Their current dual lens options include the Revolver Lite and Switch 6 lens kits that were launched in the middle of June.

We are delighted to publish this first look review by highly accomplished mobile photographer Jill Lian. She explores her thoughts and experiences, including test photos with this interesting product.

I recently had the opportunity to use The Revolver Lite series kit by Ztylus, for iPhone 7 Plus. It utilizes the dual camera system of the iPhone 7 Plus.

My first impression is that it is a user friendly system. The case feels very substantial with the option to attach a wrist strap or camera strap to the phone. I found that very helpful.

You can use the case without the lens. You do need this specific case to use the lens. The lens attaches quite simply to the case. The lens unit slides securely into the notched out area on the back of the case. It came with a macro, a super macro, a wide angle and a fisheye lens. The macro and super macro are next to each other. To use the wide angle and the fisheye you just flip the lenses while keeping them attached to the case. It worked seamlessly for me.

As a mostly macro photographer, I was curious to see how this lens system would work with the dual lens camera system of the iPhone 7 Plus. I found that I was able to get crisp, clear macro shots with the regular macro. The bokeh was impressive. The lens and the case are not bulky so you can get very close to your subject.

It took me a little longer to get crisp clear photos with the super macro using the iPhone 7 Plus 2x lens. When I first tried to switch lenses, the focus would jump back-and-forth to each camera. I soon realised that you have to set auto focus, on your phone first, by holding down your finger on the phone screen. After that discovery, I was able to get some amazing close-ups with my 2X camera on my iPhone.

I used the fisheye and the wide-angle lenses less than I used the macro lenses. I found that the fisheye works like most other add on lenses. The wide-angle is accessed by using the 2X mode on your iPhone 7 Plus. I was able to get some crisp shots with them both.

Overall I was very impressed with the quality of photos that I was able to achieve, with the Ztylus Revolver Lite Dual Optics Lens system. The whole system is relatively lightweight. I like that I can keep the lens attached to the case and put it in my pocket without the lens system sliding off.

Both the case and the lenses are well made and seem to be of high quality.
