Mobile Photography & Art – M. Cecilia São Thiago Joins TheAppWhisperer as our New Portrait of an Artist Editor

I am delighted to announce M. Cecilia São Thiago has accepted my personal invitation to become our new Columnist and  Editor for our Portrait of an Artist Column. You may recall this position was previously held by Ile Mont who did an incredible job with the column for several years. She stepped back a while ago to spend more time on her other important projects. We miss her of course and thank her for all her work and support. Before Ile Mont, Jennifer Bracewell held this position, and also had to step back after several years for the same reason. However, we are very exicted to work closer with M. Cecilia São Thiago and know she will be a huge asset to our growing team here at TheAppWhisperer HQ.

São Thiago is an artist whom I greatly admire, her photographs are exquisite and allegorical in nature. Their vitality is instrumental in pulling the viewer into a very intimate world chronicling the self and beyond.  Mysticism and spirituality have long informed São Thiago’s practice and she is refreshingly transparent about her work.  She once told me, “my photos carry in each of them everything that I have learned, what I have lived, and what I have suffered”.

We have all brushed up against the sublime feeling of wonder, with sudden realisation that we do not know. Viewing Sao Thiago’s images enable us to recreate that emotion, allowing ourselves a bit of wonder, with the potential to forget what we think we know and to revel in the immediacy of the magic of her work, holding us close, as we unravel.

Influenced by two great Viennese modernists, Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt, it’s fascinating to view the concision and extremely intelligent images that São Thiago creates. Each as luxurious, immediate and above all, tender to the next.

We also feature her work within our online print gallery and that can be viewed here.

To be featured within our Portrait of an Artist column, please ensure your images are submitted to our Flickr Group (here) and also tag your images within Instagram with #tawportraitofanartist. We also have a Facebook group and you can access and comment within that (here).

Please join me in welcoming dear M. Cecilia São Thiago to TheAppWhisperer family!
