GetJar, the world’s largest free app store, announced today that it has given away $1 million worth of free ‘premium apps’ to its consumers since launching the GetJar Gold Program and downloads of free apps have increased 5000% over the same period.
New apps are added to the GetJar Gold catalog daily and developers joining the program include BBC Worldwide (Top Gear), Gamelion (Doodle Fit) and Konami’s (Krazy Kart Racing). Other great apps and games in the Gold Program include Imperio, Handy Games ‘Guns ‘n’ Glory, Herocraft’s ‘Farm Frenzy’ and TouchType’s ‘SwiftKey X’.
Developers are looking at GetJar Gold as an alternative avenue to reach new consumers and boost their revenue. “Making money as an independent game developer isn’t easy,” said Michael Dobele of Halfbrick Studios, makers of Age of Zombies and Fruit Ninja. “Gold is bringing in extra money from a new global audience. This is income we wouldn’t have seen otherwise.”
GetJar Gold is having a massive effect for participating apps like Imperio, the premium remote desktop app for Android. “Imperio generated more downloads in the first week of launch with GetJar Gold than on any other market, bringing in three times more revenue than we’ve previously seen,” said Dan Metcalfe, CEO of Mobisoft Corporation.
“This is by far the most successful program in the history of GetJar,” said GetJar CEO Ilja Laurs. “We are thrilled with the explosive traction the Gold program is getting and are working hard to further build out our offering to consumers and developers.”
