You’re Invited: Sony World Photography Awards 2025 at Somerset House

I’m beyond excited to extend a very special invitation to you and our wider community to attend one of the most anticipated photography events of the year — the Sony World Photography Awards 2025 exhibition, hosted at the iconic Somerset House in London from 17 April to 5 May 2025.

As part of TheAppWhisperer community, you’re invited to enjoy an exclusive 10% discount on tickets using the code 10SWPA2025 at checkout.

This year’s exhibition will feature over 300 stunning photographs by more than 60 international photographers, thoughtfully curated across both the East and West Wings of Somerset House.

Expect a deeply engaging visual journey through work originating from South Africa, Peru, China, Iceland, the United States, and our very own United Kingdom. Each image tells a unique story — from social commentary and documentary perspectives to striking fine art and conceptual work.

The Rise of Mobile Photography

This year’s exhibition also highlights the extraordinary creative power of mobile photography — proving that incredible images don’t require expensive gear.

Take Ieva Gaile, a Lithuanian lawyer who captured an eye-catching image of a lone cabbage balanced on pallets of bottled water in a supermarket. Shortlisted in the Object category, this photograph examines themes of individuality, consumerism, and nature in an artificial world — all from the lens of her smartphone.

Then there’s Joshua Hasanoff, a 14-year-old from Sydney, who captured a beautifully cinematic image of his neighbour Ryuji — styled as a DJ fixing a car at dusk. His mobile-shot image earned a place on the Youth competition shortlist, showing that age and equipment are no barriers to great storytelling.

Celebrating Susan Meiselas

A true highlight of this year’s exhibition is a special retrospective celebrating the life and work of Susan Meiselas, the recipient of the 2025 Outstanding Contribution to Photography award.

As a celebrated Magnum photographer, Meiselas has spent decades documenting the lives and struggles of communities around the world, from Nicaragua to Kurdistan, with raw honesty and deep compassion. Her images are not just photographs; they are historical records and emotional testimonies.
