Belfast-based photographer, Gerry Coe FBIPP, has received acclaim for his work in iPhone photography after achieving the Peter Grugeon Fellowship of the Year award at the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP) Qualification awards; one of the most highly recognised of its kind. Incidentally this is the second occasion that Gerry has won this award, an exceptionally rare feat, having been first presented with the title in 1999 for his first Fellowship panel of Black and White images.
Gerry is an internationally acclaimed Fine Art Photographer, working in Northern Ireland and known for both his Award winning iPhone Art and his Fine Art Portraiture. A photographic professional of Fifty years, he is a Fellow of each of the four main photographic organisations, and has just recently received his second Fellowship from the BIPP for his much acclaimed iPhone Photography images – the first photographer to have done so.
After seeing what some people were producing out of what he considered a poor quality lens and sensor built into the iPhone, Gerry started to experiment with his. He soon found that with a whole world of “apps” available, he actually had the ability to produce the type of images that he could not replicate on a computer. His enthusiasm for shooting and editing using solely the iPhone grew, to the extent that he no longer uses his Nikon other than for portrait sittings.
BIPP President, Roy Meiklejon FBIPP, stated “I was delighted to assist Russell Baston FBIPP in presenting Gerry with the 2012 Peter Grugeon Fellowship of the Year Award. His panel was a wonderful example of professional photography of the highest standard, and a testament to the exceptional quality and diversity of photographers within the BIPP”.
