Tickle Your Fancy #37 – Dedicated To Three of the World’s Top Female Documentary Photographers
Welcome back to our thirty seventh post in our new section ‘Tickle Your Fancy’. ‘Tickle Your Fancy’ includes a round-up of between three to five links to articles from around the internet that have specifically interested us during the course of the week. Ones that we feel are relevant to your interest in photography and art.
Just to explain the title for this section ‘Tickle Your Fancy’ is an English idiom and essentially means that something appeals to you and perhaps stimulates your imagination in an enthusiastic way, we felt it would make a great title for this new section of the site.
This week we wanted to dedicate to three of the worlds top female documentary photographers – Alixandra Fazzina, Kitra Cahana and Lynsey Addari. They’ve been tied up in Benghazi, shot at by Somalian smugglers, and tracked down the sex slaves of the Taliban, they have seen first-hand that women endure less violence on the frontline…

‘Alixandra Fazzina (UK, 1974) focuses with her photography on under-reported conflicts and the often forgotten humanitarian consequences of war’.
Fazzina is an incredible photographer and artist, her current new long-term project ‘The Flowers of Afghanistan’ documents the stories of Afghan children seeking refuge in Europe.

‘Kitra Cahana is a documentary and fine art photographer whose work explores important social, anthropological, and spiritual themes. Born in Miami, but raised in Canada and Sweden, Kitra earned her B.A. in philosophy from McGill University and her M.A. in visual and media anthropology from the Freie Universitat in Berlin. She is one of National Geographic Magazine’s youngest photographers’.
