Rare Salvador Dali print to be auctioned at glitzy charity Ball

_{A rare signed Salvador Dali print is to be auctioned at London’s annual Butterfly Ball, the UK’s most exclusive charity event.}

_{Organised by Caudwell Children, the national charity that provides practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families, the Butterfly Ball receives worldwide media attention and attracts a host of A List celebrity guests.}

_{The lithograph, entitled Birth of Venus, was created by the celebrated Spanish Catalan surrealist painter in 1979 and is numbered 34 from only 150 impressions from the 1st edition.}

^{“This is one of a number of stunning auction items that will be up for grabs at this year’s Butterfly Ball, which will once again take place at the Grosvenor Hotel, in Mayfair, on Thursday 13th June,” said Kerrie Davies, Associate Director of Events at Caudwell Children. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for someone to own a signed lithograph created by one of the most collected artists in the 20th century.”}

^{Dali’s portrait of the surrealist poet Paul Eluard, painted in 1929 when the artist was just 24, fetched a staggering $22.4 million when it was sold by Sotheby’s in 2011.}

^{“We’re not expecting it to raise that much,” joked Kerrie. “However this particular piece, which has been restored and reframed to the highest quality, has been hand-picked by FR Events, who specialise in silent and live auctions.}

^{“They’ve very kindly donated the piece to our auction which will be conducted on the night by the legendary auctioneer Charlie Ross, of Antiques Roadshow fame.}

^{“Limited edition prints are created with direct involvement of the artist which makes this piece that much more desirable to collectors.”}

^{It’s believed that the print is a homage to Albrecht Durer, the German painter and printmaker who became famous for his high-quality woodcut prints in the 16th century.}
