I have spent many a day looking upon Cristina’s mobile digital illustrations. I would say she is one of the leading figures of the surrealist movement of this growing artform. The selection of images that we have included within this interview represent a superbly lucid and erudite collection of collage and visual illusions. I consider this collection some of Cristina’s greatest work.

This is our thirty second published interview within this series of ‘intimate interviews’, this time with Oola Cristina from from the Willamette Valley, Oregon, USA.

Today, we are publishing our thirty first interview within this series of ‘intimate interviews’, this time with Kathleen Magner-Rios from Wilmington, Delaware, United States. I first became aware of  Magner-Rios’ work through her iPhone photography but in order to publish, with confidence, interviews for our readers, I like to read around the subjects too. In Magner-Rios’ case I have been rewarded by doing so with stunning nature, botanical and travel images. These are not only mobile photography, but digital slr too. The expansiveness of her work builds with my own sense of what photography is about, she’s a visionary, wrestling with the point at which body and spirit meet.

Sean Hayes is something of a cultural artist crossing geographic boundaries, one who transforms cultural landscapes. His art is an experience, his portraiture and street work allows for a direct and intimate interaction with the viewer. The meticulous staging of light within his images fills the air with an awareness of living. Hayes’ landscape photography owes its eloquence to its matter-of-fact nature. Everything is observed, Hayes’ images carry the romantic undertow of both myth and mystery. Hayes achieves an engaging style with his art, he not only manages to cross physical borders between countries but I feel, he has a sense of the emotional boundaries between people, his portraiture demonstrates a level of empathy with the subject that brings us into another’s world, another’s pain, another’s joy.

Hayes is an award-winning photographer whose work has been selected for exhibitions in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Miami, Milan, Brussels and Paris. In 2012, Sean was awarded an Honorable Mention in the landscape category of the Mobile Photography Awards and 2nd place in the people category of the MPA 2013. For the 2015 MPA, he received honourable mentions in the Black and White, Portraits and Photo Journalism categories. He also won 3rd place for his Photo Essay of Irish landscapes. For the 2016 MPA, he received Honorable Mentions in the People, Landscape and Transport categories. Sean lives with his Belgian wife and children in Brussels and works as a professional photographer and advertising art director.

My daughter’s school prom this week manifested into the creation of a taut, magnificently controlled week, with smidgen’s, in my case, of personal survival. The entire week was one of lucid reflection as the period of her school days came to an end with an almost surrealist picture of her leavers celebration. The limpid clarity as an observer and witness to the life changes as she transgresses can only be compared to Claude Cahun’s photomontages, it looks like life, but it’s not life, exactly. Only art can achieve this degree of realism.

I end this week, with a juddering heart, strangely close to tears, knowing that the true emotional nature of this week, gloriously ramps up next week, as her exams commence…

Take heart, view this weeks mobile photography and art lancing showcase, as more and more mobile photographers and artists find us, we are privileged to share their work.

Thank you to all the talented artists for submitting your works to our showcase this week. If you would like your work to be considered for entry in to our weekly Mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group, please submit it to our dedicated group, here.
