Instagram Introduces Five New Filters – TheAppWhisperer
In December 2012, Instagram added Mayfair and Willow to the Instagram filter family—and a lot has happened in the last two years. Inspired by the photography, art, fashion and design of the global Instagram community, the developers have released five new filters. You’ll see the filters at the front of your filter tray: Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Aden and Perpetua. They soften and subtly shift colors to achieve the look and feel you want for your each photo.
Illuminating Lyon with the Festival of Lights – Instagram – 2014
Oh, how I would’ve loved to of been here, every year at the beginning of December, the Fête des Lumières (Festival of Lights) takes place in the French city of Lyon (@villedelyon), illuminating the city’s parks and building facades with 75 light installations set to music. The festival now attracts huge crowds from all over the world, but began as a Lyonnaise tradition. When plans to unveil a new religious statue in 1852 were thwarted by bad weather, residents placed candles in jars on windowsills as a tribute. Microsoft Hires Photographer To Travel The World via Instagram
It’s taken some time, but Microsoft have now joined Instagram and have hired photographer Justin Bastien as well as financing his travel to capture images and post stories about people in various careers using Microsoft in their work. The Microsoft Instagram account currently has 14,537 followers but we are expecting this grow very quickly. Go here to follow them.
Instagram Updated With Discovery and Caption Editing
In this update, Instagram are continuing to improve the Explore page by making it faster to find people you want to follow. With this in mind, you’ll see that the Explore icon at the bottom of your screen has changed to a magnifying glass. When you open Explore, you’ll now see two tabs: Photos and People. The Photos tab has not changed. It contains the same scrolling grid of photos and videos you already know. The new People tab highlights interesting accounts for you to discover.

Advertising Assignments and Instagram Success
A very interesting article in PDN last week talks about advertising assignments and success for mobile photographers. They interview Lauren Randolph a very successful photographer, more commonly known by her Instagram title of Lauren Lemon and discuss the continued rise of her career.
