Daily iOS App Update – 01/18/2011

Latest Apple iPhone and iPad apps to hit the App Store today…

Eio apps is pleased to introduce Mixeroo for iOS. Already featured by Apple in New and Noteworthy and What’s Hot in Education, Mixeroo is a musical app that gives children control over the instruments in the mix of a song. Developed for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch by indie developer Kirk Wheeler, Mixeroo provides a fun and educational way to explore and experience music by allowing children to hear the individual elements of a song and change the balance between them.

Each instrument is associated with a brightly colored fader that invites them to see what will happen when they take something away or put something back. By giving them a chance to hear the way music is arranged they are able to begin learning musical ideas like rhythm and melody.

The idea for Mixeroo came naturally to Kirk Wheeler who has been a mixer for television and film as well as independent records for over 15 years. First conceived as a way to share his love for music and mixing with his two year old daughter he got to work after seeing the iPad for the first time.

Historical iMarkers

Historical iMarkers is an application that helps users connect with the past by being a rich source of history that can be taken anywhere. The app provides historical roadside marker descriptions and information using the most comprehensive historical marker database currently available. Plus, Dzine Apps is helping to preserve this history by donating a portion of the app’s sale proceeds to contributing historical organizations.

The Historical iMarkers app essentially puts a bit of history in users’ pockets, giving them portable access to data on more than 129,000 local, state and national historical markers. Data comes from participating State Historical Preservation Offices (SHPO), the National Register of Historical Places, as well as sites and regular users who contribute information – and Dzine Apps is adding new markers every day!

Using GPS, the app displays nearby historical markers or lets users easily search for markers within a specific area or intended route. Once a marker is chosen from the map or list view, its description can be read or the user can have the app read the information aloud, making it handy while driving or for letting a group of people listen.

This is a new product in the AppStore, offering more than fifteen hundred questions in a trivia format, all of them about New York City. Users learn about New York film, people, landmarks, events, history and more but they do so in a way that’s fun. An homage to the Big Apple, NYC Trivia is the city’s number one and only trivia app, providing entertainment and education for tourists and native New Yorkers, alike.

NYC Trivia is a new arrival to the AppStore, proudly being launched by SlapAppie. The application is a unique blend of learning tool and fun, offering an easy, eye-catching interface, more than fifteen hundred questions and a ton of interesting information about the (arguably) greatest city in the world, New York.

The app is a trivia game with a Big Apple theme. All of the questions revolve around those things that make the city what it is – the people, history, events, landmarks and film. Each of the questions has a multiple choice answering format, making it a little easier to correctly answer. It’s educational and challenging but also a lot of fun.

Power App GmbH has announced QiblaLocate 1.0 for iOS, their app that employs the GPS system of any iOS device to locate the qibla, the correct direction to face Mecca. Unaffected by the inaccuracies of magnetic north vs. true north, the app provides superior results. After starting the app, the user simply gives permission to use their current position as the basis for calculation, and the app immediately displays a large green arrow, a world map, and the exact distance and bearing to Mecca. For the 1.5 billion followers of Islam worldwide, the app provides a convenient solution to a question that arises several times daily.

Moslems are not facing the city of Mecca when they pray, but rather the revered Kaaba, the central shrine in Mecca’s Great Mosque. Although the surface of a globe permits facing in more than one direction to reach another point, only the great circle route, the shortest distance, is considered the qibla. QiblaLocate employs the satellite-based, GLobal Positioning System to accurately determine the user’s present position, and the precise direction or qibla.

Camera Plus Pro

Camera Plus Pro 3.1 has gone a step further from its previous major update in becoming not just a complete iPhoneographic solution but also allowing users to create beautiful photos with the choice of 27 new Effects such as Grunge, Lomographic, Vibrant, Polarize, Sunset and more on their iPhone 3GS, 4 and iPod touch.

Users can also create unlimited number of customized effects by mixing and remixing a combination of the Adjustment tools and Effects. To get the desired exposure for their shots, users can drag the exposure control across the screen before capturing the photo or while recording a video.

Camera Plus Pro photos will also carry additional EXIF Data such as the make, model, creation date and more. Several enhancements with regard to the Quick Roll performance for faster loading of photos and videos, additional Time Lapse options, Video Filters and Share screen have been made.

Fitness experts have noted that agility training can be more effective if the athlete has to respond to varying directional commands as it takes away the athlete’s ability to anticipate the next move. This is precisely what Zigyt does and so more closely mimics a real competitive situation than does executing static agility exercises.

While proper bio-mechanics of drill execution are taught by coaches, trainers and instructors, Zigyt provides a very inexpensive way for the athlete or fitness enthusiast to train on their own, any time and in a variety of settings.

Zigyt features over 20 agility drills grouped by type and degree of difficulty. Drills are also listed by the sport that they can apply to which include (but are not limited to) Tennis, Soccer, Baseball, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Squash and Hockey. Also included are drills specific to Tennis and Squash.

Atlantis Invaders

In Atlantis Invaders, the underwater city of Atlantis is under aerial attack by the deadly Gordon fleet. It’s your job to save the day by manning three, fixed defense turrets in a bid to knock the enemy fighters out of the sky before they can lay waste to your city with their horrible deathray.

"We tried to make the exact clone of this fantastic game with its marvellous atmosphere in every possible aspects of the original game (sounds, graphics, gameplay, scoring, etc.) and added few touches here and there, like adding OpenFeint for online scores," said Mojtaba Rajabi, Game Developer. "We took pictures of the original game and placed all parts of the city with the highest possible accuracy, we also recorded videos of the original game using Atari 2600 emulators to calculate the speed changes of enemies and missiles one by one and used the results in the game. We also thought about adding features like combos, more enemies, etc. but we realized that they’ll change the original feel of the game and its fantastic gameplay atmosphere, so we changed our minds and tried to make a perfect clone instead."

Jeremy Bassett has announced the release iDataMonitor 1.1.1, his latest iPhone and iPad App. The simple App instantly reports how much data the device has been consuming on 3G, Edge or GPRS. This data is beautifully presented on the Retina display with a progress bar annotated by Info Bubbles. Predicted, suggested and actual usage metrics can also be displayed in Classic View.

iDataMonitor displays information items that enable users to make decisions on their data consumption behavior. Historical data usage can be reviewed for each billing cycle with swipable graph cards, the most recent giving a visual cue on the current status. The App is designed to put the user in control of their consumption in the age of the data cap with a unique set of features.

Friend’s Phone Tracker

Friend’s Phone Tracker is a new application, the only one to provide exact map location tracking between iPhone users. The app takes advantage of the device’s GPS to pinpoint locations on three different types of maps.

The app allows users to enjoy an unlimited list of friends, all of whom are able to send and receive location data. In order for one phone to relay the information to another phone, both need to have the application and a request must first be approved by the user. This measure allows users to have control over who knows their whereabouts.

Cookie Tracker

The application allows for the inputting of goals and orders for multiple sellers, which is great for families with more than one cookie seller, or for troop leaders to record the girls’ results. Who has ordered, paid and received delivery of their cookies is all recorded for each child to keep things straight.

Once someone purchases a box of cookies, the Cookie Tracker app makes it easy for the girls to send a polite email of thanks to each buyer, letting them know that the organization and seller appreciates the support for their scout troop. All of the information entered can be broken down into reports by cookie type, date, person and totals. The reports can be quickly emailed to others from within the application, eliminating the need for manual paperwork and turning in hand-written reports.
