Nokia and Microsoft have just announced their new long term plans to partner up as Windows Phone 7 becomes the main operating system on all Nokia’s smart phones – what a wonderful relationship, Microsoft’s software expertise meets Nokia’s hardware expertise. It’s a good idea, but also shows how good Apple are, when they combine the hardware and software together.
Less we forget Bing of course, it will now become the main search engine on all Nokia phones too. Nokia Maps will become the main mapping technology. Nokia’s application and content store will become integrated into Microsoft Marketplace. Microsoft will also provide developer tools making it easier for application developers to leverage Nokia’s global scale. Microsoft adCenter would provide search advertising services on Nokia’s line of devices and services.
"Nokia is at a critical juncture, where significant change is necessary and inevitable in our journey forward," said Stephen Elop, Nokia President and CEO. "Today, we are accelerating that change through a new path, aimed at regaining our smartphone leadership, reinforcing our mobile device platform and realizing our investments in the future."
MeeGo will become an open-source, mobile operating system project.
