As we all know, a silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound, especially spoken dialogue. In silent films for entertainment the dialogue is transmitted through muted gestures, pantomime and title cards. The idea of combining motion pictures with recorded sound is nearly as old as film itself, but because of the technical challenges involved, synchronized dialogue was only made practical in the late 1920s with the perfection of the audion amplifier tube and the introduction of the Vitaphone system. After The Jazz Singer in 1927, "talkies" became more and more commonplace and within a decade silent films had died out due to technology. Or at least, so it seemed, that was until Macphun.com produced The Silent Film Director for iPhone.
The Silent Film Director allows you to select a style for your film, whether that be 20’s, 60’s or the 70’s era. You can ‘dye’ your film too, like the originals with vintage sepia, sepia or black and white effects. Of course, it’s possible to speed up or slow down the video speed to create more effects and atmosphere. Perhaps the most modern effect that Silent Film Director brings to the modern day, is the ability to share your unique creations directly from your device to Facebook, YouTube and also email. You can also gain access to the LIVE gallery of Silent Films created by other App Users.
