Photo Competition – The Women’s Committee Of The Philadelphia Museum Of Art

THE WOMEN’S COMMITTEE OF THE PHILADELPHIA MUSEUM OF ART is pleased to announce its third biennial Photography Competition. The Competition is open to all photographers age 18 and over. A jury of nationally recognized experts will select 6 photographs by 6 different artists. Each winning photograph will enter the permanent collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and will be exhibited by the Museum as part a special celebratory event to take place in June 2014. Additionally, the winning photographs will be sold individually in editions of 15. Each winning artist will receive a cash prize of $1,000 and will be paid a 5% commission on sales of their prints from the edition of 15.

JURORS for the 2014 Competition include the celebrated photographer Larry Fink, publisher and gallery director Darius Himes, and Philadelphia Museum of Art curator Peter Barberie.

Joanne Carter is a British photography journalist, editor, curator, and the founder of *TheAppWhisperer.com*, one of the world’s leading platforms dedicated to mobile photography and art. Since its launch in 2009, TheAppWhisperer has become an international hub for artists of all levels to discover, learn, exhibit, and engage with contemporary photographic practice.Built on principles of inclusivity, accessibility, and artistic excellence, Joanne has spent almost two decades championing mobile photography as a serious artistic medium. Her freelance journalism, criticism, and commentary have been published widely in both the UK and the US, with bylines in *The Times*, *The Sunday Times*, *The Guardian*, *Popular Photography*, *NikonPro*, *DPReview*, *Which?*, *Vogue Italia*, *LensCulture*, the *BBC*, and more recently, the *Financial Times*, where her published letters on photography continue to contribute to wider conversations around the medium.Alongside her editorial and curatorial work, Joanne’s own photographic practice has been exhibited internationally across the UK, Europe, South Korea, and the United States.     Interesting that the women’s committee selected zero female jury members – I hate that.
