I get a bit too excited when beetroot season is in full swing. I celebrate with variations on concoctions of dishes (disclosure – I love to cook). After I’ve got past the Lady MacBeth hand scrubbing moment, I slice it really thinly, brush with oil and roast in a hot oven but as we are having a huge heat alert, this weekend I really don’t want to use the oven. The tranquility of rivers is never so close than in deep summer, rivers awaken our senses, renewing connections with nature. I’ve never lived far from a river almost like a magnet I’ve always been pulled towards one. They all have a destination and they travel relentlessly, unlike a lake.
