Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr/Instagram Group Showcase – 9 February 2020

“I’m with Edvard Munch, who said photography can’t compete with painting, because it can’t deal with heaven or hell”, said David Hockney in today’s Sunday Times. I’m inclined to disagree with this and of course, I can point to this weeks showcase to support my case. Our musical choice matches perfectly, love, loss and the nature of reality. Heaven and hell? Oh yes, having lived full lives, if we cannot cure mortality, should we at least die trying…? The one thing humans have to save them of the depths of despair is humour and like many I have a strong one, Hockney does too “Do you know why laughter is important?” he asks, “It’s the only time as human beings that our fight-or-flight response is turned off. It’s good for you.” I couldn’t agree more…

I hope you all love this weeks mobile photography and art showcase as much as I do. Thank you to all the talented artists for submitting your works to our showcase this week. If you would like your work to be considered for entry in to our weekly Mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group, please submit it to our dedicated group, here. Our ninety ninth interview in this series of intimate interviews is with talented mobile photographer Alastair Hooley from the West Midlands, England, UK. Hooley recently had some of his mobile photography work exhibited in the Lansdowne in Birmingham as part of the ‘Birmingham now, before then’ photography exhibition, curated by @westmidsphotocollective along with 24 other local photographers. We are delighted to publish our second Mobile MasterPeace Interview, as mentioned in our Sunday Showcase, 26 January 2020. M. Cecilia São Thiago is a talented mobile photographer and artist, she is also our Portrait of an Artist Editor and Mobile Movies Editor such is her gift, we also offer her work for sale, strictly in single limited editions within our unique online gallery. Apart from the obvious natural talent Thiago displays in her artwork, we also adore her sagacity, she uplifts, inspires and empowers all who read and view her work. Thiago could gracefully convince us of anything, her passion for Klimt, her love for the latest photograph, her views on the conventional notions of beauty – they all start to feel like treasures and her sensual rapport – a joy. “The work I do today has actually the same origin for identity that I started many years ago when I revealed my photographs and used ink over the printed image to modify my entire face … Mobile art helps me know what goes on deep in my soul… and knowing me better is a way of having peace“, she explains. Enjoy!

Mobile Photography & Art – ‘Intimate Interview’ with Fiona Christian, from East Sussex, England, UK

Our ninety eighth interview in this series of interviews is with talented mobile photographer Fiona Christian from East Sussex, England, UK. We decided to launch this new intimate style of interview into TheAppWhisperer – the world’s most popular mobile photography and art website as we feel it is important that our community feel closer to each other. It is this support network that helps us to nurture one another, gain confidence and continue to grow.

Now, this intro is a little easier for me to write because I’m good friends with Fiona and when I think of her, there’s one memory that enduringly warms me. We generally meet at various art exhibitions and share our time and thoughts, usually including a good lunch somewhere. The memory that stays with me though, is one where we were walking down the Cromwell Road, South Kensington, SW7, we were just chatting but how we laughed, we laughed so much and so hard. That’s what good friends do, oh and another thing, she gives the very best hugs, so it’s a real pleasure to include this interview with Fiona and her beautiful art, it helped me to learn a little more about her too. Enjoy!

Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties“, writes Erich Fromm, one of the most prescient thinkers of the 20th century. Love and creativity play a huge part of my life and it is physical. Love of art, the art of loving, irrational, intellectual, obsessive, insightful. Professor Semir Zeki, a neurobiologist at the University College London, proved in a series of pioneering brain-mapping experiments that viewing art triggers a surge of dopamine, the feel-good chemicial, into the orbito-frontal cortex of the brain, resulting in feelings of intense pleasure, the same part of the brain that is excited, when we fall for someone, romantically. For all of us associated with mobile photography and art, we already know this, mobile art is our fix just like illicit drug taking, we feel immediate stimulation and like a drug, our reward centres crave for more. I also believe it is not just the viewers but also the creators of mobile art, that reach for that high too. Love, like creatvity, requires courage, to let ourselves go, as Fromm described above. It’s fierce trust, it demands you put forth your work, without knowing an outcome because fierce trust knows that the outcome does not matter, it cannot matter. Keep sharing your work, each one of you reading this was born to create. Ask yourself, how fierce is your trust in that love? Keep creating, keep viewing, it’s our labour of love.

I hope you all love this weeks mobile photography and art showcase as much as I do. Thank you to all the talented artists for submitting your works to our showcase this week. We are delighted to publish our first Mobile MasterPeace Interview, as mentioned in our Sunday Showcase, 26 January 2020. Alexis Rotella is a prize-winning poet who specializes in Japanse Poetry in English forms. Author of many books (Amazon.com), her #metoo anthology, Unsealing Our Secrets was awarded a Touchstone Book Award  2018. Alexis is an acupuncturist who is looking to relocate to North Carolina.

This is a fascinating interview with Rotella and it has touched me deeply, I feel as though I am with her in person, sharing these insights. I am also delighted that I was cited within this interview as an influence to others, encouraging and nurturing the ready talent within our community. I was not alone either, Rotella has also cited the work of Giulia Baita, Vicki Cooper, Karen Divine and Andrea Bigiarini and I couldn’t agree more. Enjoy!
