“There are so many things that art can’t do. It can’t bring the dead back to life, it can’t mend arguments between friends, or cure AIDS, or halt the pace of climate change. All the same, it does have some extraordinary functions, some odd negotiating ability between people, including people who never meet and yet who infiltrate and enrich each other’s lives. It does have a capacity to create intimacy; it does have a way of healing wounds, and better yet of making it apparent that not all wounds need healing and not all scars are ugly”. Another quote from the book that I am still studying (that I mentioned last week), ‘The Lonely City: Adventures in the Art of Being Alone’ by Olivia Laing. Speaking from personal experience, this is how I view what we do here at TheAppWhisperer, sharing art, infiltrating each other’s lives with such richness, enables us to resonate with a divine sense of wholeness. This weeks mobile photography and flickr group showcase is tantamount to that. Enjoy!

When I was a young girl, one of my great pleasures was creating plays with my best girlfriend. When I say ‘plays’, perhaps they would be better described as audio recordings, on cassette tape, like a radio show. Rachel and I would spend hours on the scripts and each take on multiple roles within the same recording. It was not just due to economic necessity that we each played multiple parts, it was also hugely fun. These plays were complex and sophisticated and allowed us to express all the emotions we had building inside us, from outside sources.  With today’s technology, it’s so much easier to turn turn narration into surreal fantasy sequences. Our mobile photography and art flickr group showcase, that we publish every single Sunday, boasts footage from still photographs turned into video footage, it builds and builds to a heightened series of impressions, giving an intensity and visual fortitude that can’t be found elsewhere. This is a technique that will make many viewers slink into pure fantasy, full meditation, pure bliss. Each image represents a performance, as this video rolls you will realise authentic emotion, in our current world, where over-analysis negatively impacts so much of our pleasure, this insanely brilliant format allows you to binge on creativity.

Enjoy!

Mobile Photography & Art – The Courage to be Afraid – Showcase for Carolyn Hall Young

Recently, I set up a Facebook group entitled – The Courage to be Afraid – A Tender Tribute to Human Valiance with Carolyn Hall Young. Hall Young is our dear friend and hugely talented artist and many of you are aware that she is currently experiencing particularly challenging health issues. This group was made with love and is full of love from all the artists who have joined this group to create and share their images for her. I have complied each image into a film showcase, so that she can view all of them in one sitting (hopefully). When she is feeling more well, I am sure she will be able to vist the group and view all of your kind words in full (more so, than the space allows me to write the titles).

(Please do note, that I have gone through the group several times, searching for all the images for this particular showcase and I believe I have included everyone, if not, please just let me know and I will add you).

Mobile Photography / Art New Year Resolutions 2016 From Around The World

New Year Resolutions have a long history, the Babylonians pledged to return borrowed objects and repay their debts at the start of each year, while the Romans kicked off January by making a vow to the god Janus (from whom the month takes its name).

As we have been repeating and updating this featured article now for several years, many artists have looked back and lamented at their broken promises but also as you read, you will see that many rejoice at the acomplishments that they have achieved.

In assessing my goals for the New Year, I don’t list tasks, I analyze the optimal approaches in reaching those goals, breaking them down into steps. I think we need to challenge ourselves – to stretch, purposefully, beyond our comfort zones. I make a plan, which includes a roadmap to consciously pursuing new ideas, and discovering possibilities. Each step forward, into unknown territory, emboldens us.

In 2015, I have watched us all grow, creatively, exponentially, in part because we build on a collective intelligence. Having a context, and a community, helps us know ourselves, better.

I’m excited to think of what you each will bring to this New Year. We have shared great energy, camaraderie, encouragement, information, and imagery. We have connected, mourned each other’s losses, and celebrated our victories, large and small, together.

Many thanks to our international community, to all those who have submitted artwork to TheAppWhisperer project, commented on articles, and spread the word about mobile artistry. Thank you to the extraordinary group of features editors who volunteer their efforts and expertise to make TheAppWhisperer a rich and diverse resource. As always, I am grateful for your friendship and support. You move me.

I would like to thank all the artists who have participated our New Years Resolution project this year. Everyone enjoys reading and learning more about you all and it’s a wonderful opportunity to share and rejoice in all your achievements and of course, to bathe in your glorious art.
